Historia
With few other options, African American classical musician Gethsemane Brown accepts a less-than-ideal position turning a group of rowdy schoolboys into an award-winning orchestra. Stranded without luggage or money in the Irish countryside, she figures any job is better than none. The perk? Housesitting a lovely cliffside cottage. The catch? The ghost of the cottage's murdered owner haunts the place.

Narrators Should Not Change
Revisado: 02-15-22
I really loved the first book and the flow of the story. I found it funny in places, enjoyed the pace and felt as if the book moved along at the perfect pace. Although Jessica Carroll might have been preferred for a more elegant sounding reader, I really had problems with the change. Maybe if I hadn't listened to the first book I would have been happier with the story. In all fairness I would probably have rated the book higher if it wasn't for my need to adjust to a new performer.

Couldn't Take Anymore
Revisado: 07-30-21
I honestly don't know why Karen White is allowed to read books out loud. Her voice is grating and listening to it feels like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard. There are several writers I believe I would have enjoyed their books if not for her.

A Worthwhile Read
Revisado: 12-21-20
If you prefer a well rounded story with some action then this is a great book for you. If you prefer a lot of action with scant development of the characters then you probably will not enjoy this book. The story starts off a little slow but holds your interest because you are seeing the development of Ahren. Then once the story has your full attention as you begin the adventure.

Just when Baron Minalan the Spellmonger figured out there was a slim chance to restore his mind-shattered wife Alya (if he's willing to journey to the undercaverns of Olum Seheri, the lair of Korbal the Necromancer), things start to go awry: not only does Prince Tavard, his unloved liege lord, decide to conduct an official state visit to Sevendor on pilgrimage to the Everfire on the Briga's feast day, but a mysterious seamage appears at his door with an intriguing offer from the Sea Folk who rule Callidore: They want to buy snowstone. An entire mountain of it.

I Hate to See These Books Come to An End
Revisado: 03-21-20
Just want one expects. A great story that captures your imaginations and keeps it moving. I love Sci. Fiction but over the years too many books for my liking have a lot of battles with very little story to flesh the different characters out. If you read or listened to the series all the different characters have complete personalities and you pretty much know what to expect from them. When there was betrayal in the King's house, you automatically knew the wrong person had been betrayed, although that too is a story within itself. John Lee performance is always stellar and just as I'm apt to avoid some books because of the reader, I'm willing to try a new author because I know his performance will not let me down. I'm so looking forwards to the next book.

That Voice
Revisado: 05-26-19
The story is simple and funny as usual but the reader just grinds on my nerves. Whenever this woman changes characters she shouts. I'm sure all women are insulted by the stupidity of the main character.

Opposites attack! When the Magelord Minalan the Spellmonger’s two apprentices, Tyndal and Rondal, were knighted after the battle of Timberwatch, they were dubbed Knights Magi: A new class of nobility for distinguished High Magi. Designed to combine the pursuit of arcane knowledge with the noble aspirations of chivalry, it elevated them above common warmage...in theory. The problem was they had no idea how to be a Knight Mage...because no one had ever been one before.

BRAVO!
Revisado: 12-10-17
If you could sum up Knights Magi in three words, what would they be?
Bowing before brilliance
What other book might you compare Knights Magi to and why?
The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter. As the tale continues and you feel as though you are back with old friends on another great adventure. Fighting the enemy is involved, but there is a solid well developed story that completely holds ones interest through out.
Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
It's another great book and I'm left wanting more.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I made sure that I had task that would last for hours so I could thoroughly enjoy the story. When I didn't have the time for more than a few hours, I listened to something else that was enjoyable but not as lengthy.
Any additional comments?
Looking forwards to the next chapter of the story.

The End
Revisado: 09-17-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Mission impossible. In the beginning books the parents were wealthy and in this one the father is a crazy bum, gallivanting around the country leaving debt/mayhem. The characters (parents) along the original story line are wealthy, conservative and self centered. Now even that has become too unrealistic to even begin to enjoy the book.
What could Lorna Barrett have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I've given up on this writer. This was the one series that she writes I enjoyed. Now it too has became unbearable.
What aspect of Karen White’s performance would you have changed?
The poor woman could only do so much with this tripe!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Just Clause?
The characters of the book would have remained some what believable. I would have advised the writer to throw the whole thing out and start over.
Any additional comments?
The reason for the title is, this is the last book by Lorna Barrett I will purchase. I strongly do not care to continue wasting money on poor story lines and hair brain poorly written books.

Light and Fluffy
Revisado: 08-06-17
What made the experience of listening to Hooked on Murder the most enjoyable?
For a change crocheting got to be the star in fiber arts. Crocheting has come a long way since the day of simple afghans, doilies, and scarves although this book hasn't taken it any further than the past. This reader loves to knit, crochet, and tat so happy to see the step child come to it's own.
What did you like best about this story?
The topic
Which character – as performed by Margaret Strom – was your favorite?
I enjoyed all the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. The first 3 chapters were not that interesting although introducing all the characters.
Any additional comments?
If you love to crochet, you will enjoy the book. It's a good story with old fashion morals.

Painful to Listen To
Revisado: 07-09-16
Would you try another book from Lorna Barrett and/or Karen White?
Yes, I enjoy Lorna Barrett books very much
Would you ever listen to anything by Lorna Barrett again?
Yes, providing there was another narrator.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Karen White?
Just about anyone else. Cassandra Campbell was really good. The really big problem is Karen White is able to read, but she is not able to entertain. I would rather listen to a very good reader that didn't attempt to change their voice for different characters than to have someone who sounds whinny, out of breath half the time and makes many sentences that were not questions sound like a question. The first time I listened to a Cassandra Campbell book read by Karen White, I didn't know if it was the author or the narrator I didn't care for. (That book I played to help me fall asleep.) However, after listening to many of her books read by others I realized I enjoyed the authors writing but listen to Karen White has the same effect on me as the preverbal chalkboard.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Title Wave?
I don't have a clue. It pains me to listen to the book.

Puzzled
Revisado: 11-23-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I question if anyone would enjoy this book. The author made the main character wealthy and shallow. It's very hard to be a charater such as this would care about others.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Nothing. At first you wonder about the history of the main character and why the hidden necklace is so important. Then you loose interest in the story.
Would you be willing to try another one of Karen White’s performances?
I'm not sure.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
I don't know if it was the book that I didn't like, the voice of the person reading it or both. The book boarders on the ridiculous, while mentioning several social issues. I find Karen White's voice irritating at the best but question if this is because of the quality of the book or if I just didn't care for the life she tried to brings to the book.
