Historia
Thaddeus Walker Bowman Owens, the backup quarterback for the Chicago Stars, is a team player, talented sideline coach, occasional male underwear model, and a man with a low tolerance for divas. Olivia Shore, international opera superstar, is a driven diva with a passion for perfection, a craving for justice, too many secrets—and a monumental grudge against the egotistical, lowbrow jock she’s been stuck with.

Stars' Famous Owner
Revisado: 07-02-21
I was doing fine with this book until the name of the Chicago Stars owner came up. Apparently the narrator didn't bother to check the audio versions of any of the prior Stars books, or verify the pronunciation with the author. If she had, she'd know that in the previous books "Calebow" has only two syllables and a long "a". Disconcerting to hear the aberrant pronunciation repeatedly.

Historia
Kate Webb, an Australian iconoclast, Catherine Leroy, a French daredevil photographer, and Frances FitzGerald, a blue-blood American intellectual, arrived in Vietnam with starkly different life experiences but one shared purpose: to report on the most consequential story of the decade. At a time when women were considered unfit to be foreign reporters, Frankie, Catherine, and Kate challenged the rules imposed on them by the military, ignored the belittlement of their male peers, and ultimately altered the craft of war reportage for generations.

Caring about Vietnam
Revisado: 04-07-21
Three remarkable women spent years of their lives dedicated to informing the world about the war in Vietnam, sharing their compassion for our troops, for Vietnamese combatants on both sides, and of their outrage at war. Brilliant retrospective history of the wars in Vietnam and in Cambodia. Beautifully written tribute to three brave women.

Historia
While the North prevailed in the Civil War, ending slavery and giving the country a "new birth of freedom," Heather Cox Richardson argues in this provocative work that democracy's blood-soaked victory was ephemeral. The system that had sustained the defeated South moved westward and there established a foothold. It was a natural fit. Settlers from the East had for decades been pushing into the West, where the seizure of Mexican lands at the end of the Mexican-American War and treatment of Native Americans cemented racial hierarchies....

So like today - with one massive difference
Revisado: 11-23-20
This book of history is compelling in our current political atmosphere. All the purported components of today's strife and political upheaval are included - racism, oligarchy, voter suppression, gender inequality, voting fraud, storming the postal service and more. It reads so much like what we're facing today - with a major difference. As the Civil War approached, the wealthy southern slave owners were the Democrats, and those who wanted real equality of treatment and opportunity for all were the Republicans. Such interesting history! When did these ideals and principles change?

Mispronunciation
Revisado: 08-06-20
I've noted in each of the books by this author and this narrator, that each instance of the word "oriented", or "disoriented/reoriented", the narrator reads as "orientated", "disorientated" and "reorientated". These obvious uses of non-words is very jarring and disruptive to the story. Yes, the noun form is "orientation/disorientation/reorientation", but the verb forms do not contain the extra "-a-" suffix/syllable. I don't know if the author wrote these words incorrectly or if the narrator is simply reading them as such. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the stories.
