Very Disappointing - Politics Have Entered the Chat

I will start by saying that I consider(ed – still deciding) a fan of Ryan Holiday. Especially the books within this series. The first 3, I was so hooked I listened to the audiobooks in record time. Ego is the Enemy, I have listened to multiple times (one of only a handful of books I can say that about)

That said, unfortunately this book was not like that. In fact, it’s one of those books that will kill the momentum of an audiobook streak you may have going. I had to move past it and eventually, forced myself to come back and listen to the rest of it.

Sadly, Ryan has started to push his politics into his work. To his credit, he acknowledges this at the end of the book and doesn’t seem to care. Writing this review in 2025 – some of his commentary about the vaccine and COVID have not aged well. I wonder if Ryan will practice what he preaches and consider revising his views based on more information that comes to light around media / political censorship and corruption. It’s definitely has a lot of woke ideology sprinkled throughout….

The principles though are sound, it’s just his defiant tone. It gets annoying… hence this review.

Much Better Than Expected - Worth the Listen!

I don’t consider myself as having a “problem” with alcohol - but had been getting a lot of TikTok videos in my algorithm that were pushing sobriety. I saw a clip of Nikki Glaser talking about this book on Joe Rogan and decided to look into it. I would recommend this book to anyone, even if you don’t plan on quitting drinking. It’s really well narrated and I enjoyed it throughout. It’s definitely changed my overall outlook on alcohol.

Great Life Advice - Recommended Listen

You know it’s a good one when you recommend it to the group chat! I have been a fan of Ryan’s podcast and content and decided to give his audiobook book a listen. Really great content, easy to follow, and overall great advice. Hopefully I can put some of this to work right away in my own life! Keep up the great work Ryan!

Ironically Hard to Focus On

I listen to many audiobooks. Usually multiple per month. I came to Deep Work per the multiple recommendations from Nick Bare. Ironically I found the book extremely hard to keep my focus on.. it was one of those audiobooks that was hard for me to get through and found myself turning to other options like podcasts , etc as opposed to finishing the book. Can’t say I would recommend, though the content is solid,

Start of the book was VERY strong, I found it kind of drug on a bit though and started to feel more like an informercial. Alex is putting out a lot of great and insightful content! Overall I enjoyed the book! Worthy listen

Well Written & Narrated / OK content

I was hoping for a bit more from the former CMO of Nike. Overall the book is solid - but not my favorite business book on marketing. As a small business owner, I actually found it somewhat hard to relate to. As a sports and Nike fan though, it was an interesting listen - nothing super profound.. honestly not sure I would recommend.
