I randomly selected Nero (book 1 in the Alliance series) based on the summary and lack of anything else inspiring. I ended up listening to it in one "sitting". I immediately got King and after a night's sleep, did the same thing. I was rabid for Dom and pre-ordered him within 72 hours of starting the series! I thought I had found a new goldmine author, but this series is completely different from any of her other books! From a different dimension! I had Dom's release on my calendar and had consumed it within 24 hours of it downloading into my library and WOW! Was it worth the wait! I'm a "light" dark mafia fan, so I appreciate the Alliance' "mafia cred's" coming from the superficial glossed over money laundering and crusading against human trafficking. If you don't pause too long and ask yourself where all the money they need to launder is coming from, you can quickly find yourself a sympathetic fan of Dom. All the great plot drivers were there. The complex back stories that hinted at why they were each other's ying and yang. The side stories from the series that enhanced the plot but weren't necessary to enjoy it. The hurdle that were just real enough to swallow and the heroic rescues that had the wisp of "it's possibile" to justify the cheer and fist in the air when the MMC or FMC pulls them off (and in this book (this whole series, they BOTH do!). I ended the book feeling like I had just discovered what a HEA Romance was. Now I want a giant poster of Dom for my bedroom and Val as my new Bad-ass-bitch avatar LOL. I've re-listened to this series 4 times and loved it every time. It's my light, feel-good favorite. You'll love it!

They never end the story

I loved the book. Was totally invested in the storyline and then BLAM! "This concludes the book..." WTF?? A good half of the main plot lines driving the story are totally unresolved! Does she ultimately get the promotion? When and how is their relationship revealed at work? How does that spin at work? Is her career sullied because of "sleeping with the boss?". Does he ever tell her he loves her, or even see a long term relationship with her? It's like they pop in a random threesome and end the story. Like THAT was the plot device of the story. I hurried to buy the next book in the series, thinking it must be a cliffhanger, but no. The second book picks up with 2 new principles and rarely mentions these two, when the two main characters come back to attend this couples wedding.
The third installment is the same. No completion for any of the stories.

The author is good at starting books but truly SUCKS at finishing them.

This isn't a Ruthless book

Audible has this linked to Sadie Kincaid's Ruthless series and it's not. It's book 5 of S. J. Tilly's Alliance series, the final book. With that caveat, I haven't read any of the Ruthless series, but I have the Alliance, several times over. The first four were knock you down fantastic. This one is dragging.

I've listened to it 4 times, bought every title in the series including pre-ordering Hans, tried every other series by this author *because*of this book. It's the perfect audio-orgasm. A thrill ride with a sudden start into a world of the insanely intellectual, the wickedly funny and the unbelievably smutty. If this sounds like your dream vacation, strap in, charge up your ear buds and cash in your credit! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE SERIES!

LOVING the story, but did I miss the the love affair somewhere?

This series has been a roller coaster ride for me. I stopped listening to it after the first two chapters of the first book because I hated the introduction of Abby. Luckily I gave it another chance and fell in love with it a month later. This installment was better than the first, but a fundamental plot element is missing, their love story. This entire story is based on a relationship forged over a two day platonic/professional, - and two more days of sexual /professional relationship. During that whopping four day love story, they spend less than 24 hours together and the author is quick to point out that they work the one long morning together in comfortable silence. The rest of the their "together" time is his needing sex, his getting sex (most of the time without her achieving climax), then him putting on his cold mask and walking away. We're never even given a plausible reason why he went over his hiring team's decision and hired her based on her horrible interview and transcript from a tiny college.
SO.... LOVE the story! Just wish it was BASED on something!

SOOOOOO GLAD I CAME BACK TO IT!!

I like stories that are intelligent, intricate and "for mature audiences only". Finding it in the Erotica category and having read the reviews, I began listening with certain expectations. I was quickly disappointed. The main character has been so sheltered by her Christian parents that she has the intellectual independence and emotional maturity of a 12 year old. I'm not interested in reading erotica about a woman who is functionally a 12 year old. I stuck it out through two chapters before I bailed in disgust, completely perplexed by the reviews and the categorization as Erotica. The book kept haunting me, though.. The story I had heard was so completely different from the reviews. After a month, with a week to kill before my next Audible credit arrived, I came back and picked up where I left off. AND I'M SO GLAD I DID! This story is totally *about*a 21 year old woman who has been grotesquely hobbled by the sheltering of her upbringing,yet is facing life altering decisions. Released from the constraints of that shelter, what kind of woman emerges? Rather than watching a 12 year old being "molded" or corrupted into the world of erotica, you see a woman who has been bound and restraints and relish in the freedom of discovering her own independence.

The author is an artist, able to capture character interactions and emotional growth to the point that you feel like you're *in*the scenes, not just picturing them. The hinting of emerging subplots are tantalizing glimpses of the next in this amazing series.

The narrator portrays an inexperienced, sheltered young woman facing a world of wondrous possibilities with amazement wonderfully. She's able to deliver a full cast of characters with distinction. I am looking forward to seeing how she handles the transition to the powerful woman Abigail truly is.

To love TL Swan, you have to give a lot of literary freedom to the technical accuracy of the plot details. The drama is so good it justifies the lapses in reality. This one there is just no grounding in reality at all. The main character is the Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain and occurs in the war room of a campaign, yet has no security detail and residential security that consists of video surveillance only that can be turned off for 3 weeks undetected.
Their relationship evolves through a series of forced confrontations by the girl that are rejected by the guy, yet are meant to substitute for traditional trust growth? Despite the fact that the further into the relationship they get, the darker the secrets that are being kept become. There is no justification for a continued reason to trust the other. The mailman knows more about him than she does at 14 hours in!
So, while I normally give TL Swan a lot of accuracy latitude in exchange for drama, she fails epically in both on both in this one.
The narration was fine, just rushed. It was difficult to tell the difference between pauses in conversation and different scenes.

The only way this could have ended 'fair"is if, in the end, she chose the ORIGINAL GENTLEMAN NUMBER 9, (yup, the escort) and drove away from this male dramedy.
