Entertaining Romance story with a si-fi twist
Revisado: 10-25-22
I've been listening to a lot of romance stories with my wife so I suggested we try this one. I knew going in that she isn't a sci-fi fan but hoped the romance part would keep her going.
I really enjoyed the first three books and probably will listen to the next set.
However, my wife dropped out in the first book when it started to get "hot and heavy" mostly due to the vulgar reference to male and female parts. She said it was just too weird for her (the sci-fi part).
We've listened to some other steamy romance novels that managed to handle this type of scene without reverting to the vulgar terms.
I would recommend these books to someone who either likes or doesn't mind some sci-fi with their romance and isn't offended by what some would consider offensive word choice.

Reads like a slightly fleshed-out outline.
Revisado: 04-15-22
I actually had to look to see if Ben Coes really wrote this but that is what the jacket says - hard to believe. Here are some of the reasons I say that:
If you haven't read the previous novels, you won't really know any of the characters - there was little character development in this book. If you have read the previous books, you may be scratching your head at times. As some other reviewers have said, continuity between previous books and this one is lacking - several times I was going "wait - what" because something in this book disagreed with previous books in the series. How could the 'Dewey' that was an experienced diver in the first novel now have such a life-long aversion to swimming?
I was disappointed in this book because of the vernacular seemed like an amateur was writing this. I don't expect seasoned professionals to "pump" the trigger of their guns. It may sound like I'm being picky but the word choice JUMPS OUT at you as WRONG!
Most of this book covers the events of just one day on an almost minute-by-minute time-line. I think this is a difficult way to write a book and in my opinion, it was not pulled-off very well.
The result was as I said in the title for my review - it read like an outline of a story with some details added but not a fully fleshed-out novel.

Like a movie without the video...
Revisado: 01-09-20
This was a fresh take on an old favorite and I didn't mind the variations from the original story line.
The full cast was nice as no one person can do so many voices. Sound effects and music were nice but...
The problem I have is that in a movie where they play a theme song something else is going on in the video to hold your attention. This is like the musical parts of "2001" without the accompanying video - I find myself wishing they'd just get on with the story already! Maybe if the music was only a short passage it would have added to the whole but it went on too long. In short, someone wrote a musical score and they'd be darned if it got chopped up.
