Historia
When, at age forty-six, Nancy Pelosi, mother of five, asked her youngest daughter if she should run for Congress, Alexandra Pelosi answered: “Mother, get a life!” And so Nancy did, and what a life it has been. In The Art of Power, Pelosi describes for the first time what it takes to make history—not only as the first woman to ascend to the most powerful legislative role in our nation, but to pass laws that would save lives and livelihoods, from the emergency rescue of the economy in 2008 to transforming health care.

She has grit
Revisado: 08-27-24
I highly recommend the book. I was a Republican for much of my adult life, and I heard the terrible things that were said about Pelosi. Boy were they wrong. She is highly thoughtful, intelligent, and a class act. The book gets in the weeds in a good way for anyone interested in the way the sausage is made. What a lady! What a book!

Enjoyed how the book did not get bogged down with any single event. It kept my interest by telling stories from the viewpoint of regular folks. George is a perfect narrator. I like the direct quotes by others too.

I expected a travel story but this was much more
Revisado: 03-23-24
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Even though I knew where it was going, the story was interesting and entertaining the entire time. I too lost my parents at a young age and was raised as a free-range child. I too am a reformed workaholic and am now traveling the world, though not in three weeks but in three years. Someone recommended this book to me because it reminded her of all my travel stories. I’m glad I took her advice to buy and listen to the audio book.

This is a superbly written fiction story that kept me interested. I enjoyed hearing Hispanic names for the characters and the setting in New Mexico. The story has enough twists to keep the reader guessing about where it will end.

Parts of this book are hard to read, so be aware of that before you start. However, it is intelligently written with an interesting view of false memory. I recommend the book.

Historia
In 12 years, Michelle Lyons witnessed nearly 300 executions. First as a reporter and then as a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Michelle was a frequent visitor to Huntsville's Walls Unit, where she recorded and relayed the final moments of death row inmates' lives before they were put to death by the state. Michelle was in the death chamber as some of the United States' most notorious criminals, including serial killers, child murderers and rapists, spoke their last words on earth, while a cocktail of lethal drugs surged through their veins.

Extremely good review of death row
Revisado: 08-19-23
I found this book to be an educational and easy listen. I appreciated Michelle’s and Larry’s honesty about the emotional impacts of the death penalty in them. However, I find Michelle’s continued support of the death penalty bizarre, in light of her admission about how unfair it is to some people.
