Historia
There’s chaos in Hollywood at the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown. Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. Only minutes after midnight, Ballard is called to a scene where a hardworking auto shop owner has been fatally hit by a bullet in the middle of a crowded street party.

Not His Best, But Still Compelling and Enjoyable.
Revisado: 12-19-21
I don’t write a lot of reviews but felt the need to say something given the other reviews I’ve read, both here and elsewhere. I did not like the fact that it was billed as a Harry Bosch book when it’s not. It’s a Renee Ballard book. Bosch plays a part, but it is not his story, it’s hers. Other than that, I was along for the ride. As for the political stuff others have mentioned, I felt he was, if anything, restrained and it added a bit more realism to the story. I didn't find it overly “preachy”. It was just woven through the narrative as a part of their world, as these things are currently a part of ours. At no time did I think a character was giving an opinion that didn't fit who they were just so the author could make a point. Connelly has always tried (I believe) to craft his stories to seem as real as possible. Having the world of the story mirror things going on in the real world did not surprise me at all. We’re talking about the writer who, from what I’ve read, changed the timeline in the last Mickey Haller book at the eleventh hour because it originally ended with courtroom scenes that happened when courts were closed because of Covid. I haven't read it yet, but apparently, he backed up the timeline to make the story end before lockdown. To me, that's a serious commitment to having his fictional world be as close to the real world as possible. The Dark Hours was not my favorite Michael Connelly book, but certainly enjoyable to listen to. My biggest criticism is I wish Harry Bosch was in it more and I do wonder what the average L.A. Police Detective thinks about how they were portrayed in this particular story. I didn't think they came off too well in this one.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to really meet the Beatles. This is a delightfully gory retelling of the Beatles’ U.S. tour that reimagines the Liverpool foursome as bloodthirsty zombies who take over the world…literally!

Amazing Performance By Simon Vance
Revisado: 04-16-12
What did you love best about Paul Is Undead?
It was just a lot of fun to listen to. I laughed out loud many times, which is something that doesn't happen often for me, even if it is a funny book. Not sure why the other critics have been so harsh or what they were expecting from a book about a zombie rock band. Very entertaining if you need an escape from the real world for a little while.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Don't know if I had a favorite character but I can say I laughed the hardest at some of the things the Queen of England said and when he interviewed Jesus.
What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
In my opinion, Simon Vance was amazing. Listening to the story with all the different voices and characterizations is what made the absurdity of the plot okay. I don't think I would have enjoyed it half as much if I had just read the printed book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
All You Need Is Love... And a Supply of Delicious Brains.
Any additional comments?
If you are a Beatles fan and you start listening to this book with the right expectations and accepting it for what it is, I think you will enjoy it.
