Historia
It’s the $10 million heist you’ve never heard of. In a matter of months, dozens of truckloads disappeared from American highways. But what were they carrying? Nuts. Marc Fennell takes you into a rabbit hole of crime syndicates, stolen identities and private investigators that will change the way you think about food forever. Eighty per cent of the world’s almonds are grown in the heart of California, but this journey will take you to Italy, the Spanish coast, deep under the earth and even into space.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

We listened to this with my kids (10 year old son and younger) and loved it. We were on the edge of our seats. A few good laughs as well. Exciting and well written.

Historia
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

Insightful
Revisado: 05-23-21
Really interesting and helpful. An important conversation. This inability we have nowadays to disconnect makes creating healthy boundaries a whole lot harder. And when jobs are scarce and there's the fear that someone else would happily take your job for less money, nobody wants to respond "late" by refusing to work after hours. It reminds me of learning about strikes years ago where the owners would bring in new workers and undermine the strikers. I can understand the anxiety even though I'm currently a stay-at-home mom.

Historia
With an exuberant mix of passion, insight, and humor, Anne Lamott takes us on a journey through her often troubled past to illuminate her devout but quirky walk of faith. In a narrative spiced with stories and scripture, with diatribes, laughter, and tears, Lamott tells how, against all odds, she came to believe in God and then, even more miraculously, in herself. She shows us the myriad ways in which this sustains and guides her, shining the light of faith on the darkest part of ordinary life and exposing surprising pockets of meaning and hope.

Powerful
Revisado: 05-23-21
Every woman should read this book. Seriously. She writes her story so beautifully and with so much wisdom, yet also in a way that is entirely relatable and touches the deepest parts of your soul. It made me cry multiple times. I know a lot of my more conservative friends probably wouldn't like her style, but I think they need it. They need her raw honesty about her sin. They need to see themselves in her story. I needed it. It's humbling and yet so very full of God's grace and incredible love that defies everything that makes sense. It's the gospel. It's beautiful. I wish I had a friend like her. I'm so glad I listened to her book.

Historia
This live performance of a powerful police procedural comes to life through the artistry of Celeste Lecesne and is accompanied by the original music of Duncan Sheik. Celeste portrays every character in a small Jersey Shore town as they unravel the story of Leonard Pelkey, a tenaciously optimistic and flamboyant 14-year-old boy who has gone missing. A luminous force of nature whose magic is only truly felt once he is gone, Leonard becomes an unexpected inspiration as the town’s citizens question how they live, who they love, and what they leave behind.

Dark but Compelling
Revisado: 07-01-20
Too much whining from the main character.
Gets pretty dark.
Definitely not one to finish right before bedtime.
It is well written and compelling though. I guess it was the type of story she wanted to write. But the other Hunger Games books left some slight feeling of human warmth and redemption. This one leaves you feeling empty and hopeless. Good thing there's hope in Jesus in real life! Shew. If they make it into a movie I'll have a hard time not watching it. But shew! I'll probably cry and have nightmares after.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Fasten your falx knives and grab the reins of your quadriga: Rivals 2! More Frenemies Who Changed the World is the funniest look at people who benefited the world through their hatred. This audiobook has it all: death beams, chariot races, flaming costumes, ear-munchers, party fleas, and whatever the opposite of epic poetry is.... No fact is too bizarre, no segue too surreal, and no sequitur is too non for this riotous sequel.

Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

Loved the Style
Revisado: 07-29-19
I loved the style, I guess because I find people so fascinating. I love hearing the honest, vulnerable feelings and fears and needs of the different individuals in discussing their own brokenness. I think Florence is very brave to create a work like this and share so openly about her divorce and the pain it caused her in a culture where we all want to look like we have it all together. I hope this inspires more people to not just to get outdoors (now I'm craving a good long hike or camping trip) but to be more honest and open about their struggles and failures and sin. And in response to people who were so hard on Florence for her scientific theory, who cares about all the variables? Being in nature IS helpful and healing, and it doesn't all have to be understood to the very core and explained with exact data. And I don't think she's claiming it will replace all other forms of healing. But it's healthy to get out in it for long stretches without focusing on our smart phones for once. We need to remember how important it is to experience things like calm, stillness, silence, wonder, awe, and real, deep conversations with other living, breathing humans. What a lonely bunch of people we can be while surrounded by people.
