shallow
Revisado: 01-06-25
so much self pity. You put yourself in that position, you chose this, and you weren’t a kid when you did that.
Also surprised when she openly admits cheating in her husband like that. Yes it is not a real husband but still, it’s strange. In the end she doesn’t have much to tell about herself, she has no personality, and didnt do much other than going with the flow. That is what is gonna happen to you if you decide to just do what people tell you to and go with the flow instead of thinking about life and what you value or want, to me that is nightmare.

Your best intentions are not enough. Learn how to scientifically engineer a disciplined existence, become relentless, and never give up. Whatever you want in your life, self-discipline is the missing piece. Goals will remain dreams if you make the mistake of relying on motivation and your best drawn plans. The Science of Self-Discipline is a deep look into what allows us to resist our worst impulses and simply execute, achieve, produce, and focus. Every principle is scientifically-driven and dissected to as be actionable and helpful as possible. You'll learn how top performers consistently exercise self-discipline, as well as what drives us on an instinctual, psychological level to act.

Studies do not replicate
Revisado: 10-14-24
mentions several studies that do not replicate and are now known to be false. Doesn’t mean the book is a complete waste of time, but will give bad advice in some areas and if you read you will have to filter it. I don’t recomend. I would return it if I could.

Historia
In early 2019, after three years of careful planning, Rahaf Mohammed finally escaped her abusive family in Saudi Arabia—but made it only to Bangkok before being stripped of her passport. If forced to return home, she was sure she would be killed, like other rebel women in her country. As men pounded at the door of her barricaded hotel room, she opened a Twitter account. The teenager reached out to the world, and the world answered—she gained 45,000 followers in one day, and those followers helped her seek asylum in the West. Now Rahaf Mohammed tells her remarkable story in her own words.

Historia
A quarter of a century after her memoir, Thinking in Pictures, forever changed how the world understood autism, Temple Grandin—the “anthropologist from Mars,” as Oliver Sacks dubbed her—transforms our awareness of the different ways our brains are wired. Do you have a keen sense of direction, a love of puzzles, the ability to assemble IKEA furniture without crying? You are likely a visual thinker.

Boring.

A lot of common sense. Some chapters are irrelevant. This is not completely useless, it is just that it could have been a podcast episode, not an entire book.

Some tips are nice, but this book is mostly just full of histories of people who achieved some sort of "success", which I'm not all that interested. I just wanna know how to improve my academic achieving. And a lot of the tips are not so straightforward to apply.

Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

Worth every cent.
So many years latter and I still like this story. Ant it is a great pleasure to hear it now in german.
The narrator is perfect, extremely talented and able to adapt his voice accordingly to the characters and to the speed of the history.

Historia
For years Ryder Carroll tried countless organizing systems, online and off, but none of them fit the way his mind worked. Out of sheer necessity, he developed a method called the Bullet Journal that helped him become consistently focused and effective. Then it went viral. To his astonishment, Bullet Journaling is now a global movement. The Bullet Journal Method is about much more than organizing your notes and to-do lists. It's about what Carroll calls "intentional living": weeding out distractions and focusing your time and energy in pursuit of what's truly meaningful.

A lot of advertisement for his method. A lot of cliché sentences that everybody already heard. The method itself of making a notebook with all U need is a tiny amount of this book, could have been just a blog post. He is just profiting cause his name for a journal happened to go viral.

Historia
When E. Jean Carroll—possibly the liveliest woman in the world and author of the “Ask E. Jean” advice column in Elle Magazine, realized that her eight million readers and question-writers all seemed to have one thing in common—problems caused by men—she hit the road. Crisscrossing the country with her blue-haired poodle, Lewis Carroll, E. Jean stopped in every town named after a woman between Eden, Vermont and Tallulah, Louisiana to ask women the crucial question: What Do We Need Men For?
