I’m a born “fixer” and not as empathetic as I ought to be sometimes. It’s caused me a lot of communication faux pas. There are loved ones that deserved me being an expert validator, and I wasn’t. Never too late to learn. Thanks for writing this book!

The Denver Post hails Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire mystery series as a must-read. Joining the four previous novels - all of which have been Book Sense picks - The Dark Horse puts a unique Wyoming twist on the classic British village mystery. When Longmire meets a woman jailed for her husband's death, he travels outside his usual haunts to discover the truth behind this unusual murder case.

Another awesome listen!
Revisado: 05-23-19
As always, Craig Johnson writes a terrific murder mystery, chock full of Walt and Standing Bear humor, spicy interchanges between Vick and anyone who deigns to engage her in conversation! There is the warmth of Walt’s love of and respect for horses. One believes that is really autobiographical on the author’s part. I love the contrast of the main characters. Walt isn’t perfect, but he’s honorable and as Eagle Scout-ish as you’re likely to find in any media today. The dry humor in Walt and Standing Bear is ADDICTIVE for me! And the dry humor BETWEEN them is the product of an obviously deep and loyal lifelong friendship. Mr. Johnson has produced a cast of characters that you love to return to again and again. His talent as a writer is stellar, and the choice of George Guidall to narrate this and his other books is nothing less than brilliant!!

Very moving
Revisado: 10-27-18
This book is a miracle in itself...that it was completed at all. It's a poignant true story with an amazing model of perseverance and courage. I'll be honest, about the last third of it or more was very personally difficult to listen to, because my sister was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer and underwent chemo and radiation. It gave her 18 more months that we were able to treasure her earthly presence. On her last admission to the hospital, as the author of this book also experienced, she had pneumonia that complicated the determination of just what was going on. In my sister's case, her oncologist told her she had about four months IF she pulled through the pneumonia. That was three to six days before she died. It turned out that the worst of the problem was the advancing cancer, not the pneumonia. So, she was dealing, as I imagine this author was, with very inaccurate prognostication. Of course, when someone is battling with cancer, any prognostication is fairly futile, in my opinion (as a retired RN), because it can be wrong so far on either side of the spectrum. This story was so well told, and I imagine the reason it WAS so difficult to listen to was that it so accurately described the author's hopes and dreams, and all the years of work he had dedicated to see those fulfilled, and the devastating crumbling and eventual loss of those hopes. He was brutally honest about his feelings of loss as he grew closer to the end of his life. This is a great listen and can be helpful to family and friends of a loved one going through this experience, because it is so honestly told, nothing held back.

Historia
In this masterpiece, Solzhenitsyn has orchestrated thousands of incidents and individual histories into one narrative of unflagging power and momentum. Written in a tone that encompasses Olympian wrath, bitter calm, savage irony, and sheer comedy, it combines history, autobiography, documentary, and political analysis as it examines in its totality the Soviet apparatus of repression from its inception following the October Revolution of 1917.

This horror took my breath away!
Revisado: 05-13-18
I had only to listen for an hour to be reminded in no uncertain terms how grateful I am to live in this wonderful, FREE country, with all it's flaws and governmental failings. For this appreciation, I think every high-school senior should be required to listen to this book and write a lengthy paper dealing with some element of the book that stood out as particularly meaningful to him.

I loved listening to Mr. Comey narrating his own book, and for the powerful treatise it is on integroty, truth and leadership. . rather than just a "tell all" about his conversations with the President. Our country needs more leaders like him. Wish HE would run for President. ...on any party ticket. What a breath of fresh air THAT would be!

Revisado: 04-07-18
I enjoyed this book so much, with its rich wisdom, occasional humor, and perfectly narrated text that I felt compelled to start it over as soon as I finished it the first time. I'm sure I will listen to it many more times in the coming years. I will be sharing my recommendation to listen to it with all my Audible friends.

Intriguing ending!!
Revisado: 12-31-17
I loved it, but had some problems with the telling of this true story at times. At times it came across to me (only my opinion ) as the errors of a first time, and not super gifted, novel writer. You know that he's going to lose the girl. All the other losses would have been too much if it HAD been a novel. Sadly, this is a true story. The ending had me really puzzled, and I went to sleep not understanding. But this morning I THINK I get it. I'm wondering if others will feel the same way, or if everyone but me got it. I could see the humanity in Lyers. and expected Pino to actually become close to him. There were still a lot of ending surprises that added up finally. Would recommend this book!

Nick Offerman is a gifted narrator
Revisado: 11-08-17
I thought I would love this book because I listened to two of Mark Twain's works ( one of my favorite authors ever!) and thought he did a magnificent job of narrating them! Technically he did a marvelous job of narrating his own book, and the vocabulary and skill he shows as a writer are just impressive! I learned a lot more about him as a person as well, some of which I admired, and some I did not. And this criticism I'm sure he'd laugh off and perhaps have an interesting response for. I'm not a prude and my own communication can be a bit salty at times, but honesty or not, I wouldn't put it in a book. I think these stories could have been all the more inspirational without the frequent use of questionable language. Sorry, Nick, you write a great book. Wish you would have left out some of the verbage.

Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.
