Historia
What happens when one of America’s most beloved biographers writes his own biography? For five-time New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas, the answer is Fish Out of Water: A Search for the Meaning of Life - a soaring, lyrical, and often mischievous account of his early years, in which the astute Queens-born son of Greek and German immigrants struggles to make sense of a world in which he never quite seems to fit.

READ IT!
Revisado: 10-24-21
I often hesitate to read books that try to tell us what God has done in someone’s life because they tend to become preachy and doctrinally dogmatic. In fact, I avoided this book for a long time even though I’ve read Eric Metaxas’ books, and I appreciate his writing.
Now let me tell you about THIS book. It is about a real person being drawn by a real God into his place in the world. There are so many parts of Eric Metaxas’ life that made me laugh out loud because he is so witty in telling the struggles of the stages of childhood through young adult life that most people have experienced. Woven throughout the book is the thread of God patiently showing Himself in simple ways until His love broke through in this man’s life. This is the real deal…no gimmicks, no preaching, no doctrine, just God, REALLY GOD.

Needs prescreening for younger children
Revisado: 02-26-15
The stories are the old familiar tales; but in general, they're told in the harshest way possible, which may well be as they were told originally. I prefer the scaled down versions for very young children. Even my eight-year-old grandson was bothered by the parents' actions in the Hansel and Gretel story. He's heard the story many times in other versions including a DVD performance of the opera; but this version actually gave more time to the parents' efforts to abandon their children than to the witch in the forest. We are enjoying some of the stories, but I definitely wouldn't buy it again or encourage anyone else to buy it, unless you're interested in the unabridged versions of classics. I was looking for bedtime stories - my mistake.
