Worst narrator of all time?
Revisado: 03-13-25
Roughly 60 hours into 120 hours of this man’s abysmal narration. The Realm of the Elderlings is one of the best series ever written, and the final trilogy being narrated by a man who thinks a man would speak exclusively with clenched teeth. Not sure why Hap sounds more like Thick than Thick does, either. Imagine a minstrel who speaks like that! The only person whose accent isn’t a total disaster is Fitz, which is a blessing obviously. I truly don’t know how I am going to get through the next book, especially with Lent featuring so heavily. It’s physically painful to listen to. This entire universe deserves to be re-recorded with decent narrators!
I never read physical books because I simply don’t have time, but I might make time to read the final book in physical form. Fitz and the Fool deserve better!
ETA: Oh no, now we’re in Kelsingra. Reyn’s voice is 1000000000x times worse than Lent’s. If that’s the voice he sticks with in the next book I’m OUT.

Narrator can’t pronounce a simple Spanish name
Revisado: 03-03-25
Normalize audiobook narrators confirming with authors how to pronounce names if unsure. Every single time the male narrator says the name Lourdes, it sounds like Lord. Maybe it’s my American ears, but I do know some Spanish, specifically Argentinean dialects, and it’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. I don’t expect perfection, but an attempt at accuracy especially with names is important.
I think the narrator for Ines’s perspective would have done a better job covering Whit’s.

Historia
For fifteen years FitzChivalry Farseer has lived in self-imposed exile, assumed to be dead by almost all who once cared about him. But now, into his isolated life, visitors begin to arrive: Fitz's mentor from his assassin days; a hedge-witch who foresees the return of a long-lost love; and the Fool, the former White Prophet, who beckons Fitz to fulfill his destiny. Then comes the summons he cannot ignore. Prince Dutiful, the young heir to the Farseer throne, has vanished.

Returning to Fitz’s story
Revisado: 08-23-24
I genuinely cannot stand fitz. I was hoping I’d like him as an adult but he’s still unbearable. The way the narrator pronounces Kettrickan makes my eye twitch. I didn’t care for the narrator of the beginning of Fitz’s story but this one is even worse. Dutiful seems to take after his bio father in the lack of critical thinking. Here’s hoping Nettle isn’t as much of an idiot.

A friend recommended this series and I am so glad she did! The story and characters are excellent. Some of the pronunciations were a bit grating, but nothing I couldn’t overlook. Can’t wait to continue the series!

Narrator was not it
Revisado: 03-25-24
I feel like this narrator was possibly the worst choice. Her voice for Lettle was horrid, made her seem like a whiny teenager.
I loved the writing style, but did feel like it was getting repetitive towards the end. Looking forward to the next book in the series, but crossing my fingers that a different narrator at least for Lettle is chosen.

SABAA! THIS IS EVERYTHING!
Revisado: 03-13-24
As expected, this book is incredible. I cried, I laughed, I screamed. This is a book I will give my daughter to read when she’s a teenager. It SHOULD be in schools. It might be the most beautiful coming of age story I’ve ever read, honestly.
My only complaint has nothing to do with the story. The narrator for Noor. She did great except for the voice she used as Jamie. She was a despicable character without the absolute worst “voice” I’ve ever heard. I’d rather hear “rifled” mispronounced and that’s one that really REALLY gets me. No one speaks like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of listeners DNF due to this. It would be a mistake for sure because the book is 10/10, but it wouldn’t be surprising.
Anyway, I LOVED the book. If you can get past Jamie’s horrendous voice you’ll love it too!

Historia
As the mists roll over the fens and enigmatic lights twinkle in the distance, only the locals know their way along the hidden paths through the mysterious watery terrain of one of England's most beautiful and sometimes dangerous places. Detective Matt Ballard may have retired but there's still plenty going on in the fens to keep him busy. Someone trashes an old lady's garden and daubs her isolated cottage with hateful graffiti. Emilia Swain seems to be totally harmless, so why is she being targeted?

Extremely disappointing *spoilers*
Revisado: 05-31-23
I’ve listened to both the DI Nikki Galena and Jackman and Evans series so I’ve been excited for the Matt Ballard books, my disappointment is immeasurable. The first two were bad, this one is horrendous. The storyline is awful, the characters are insufferable. I was screaming out loud to the characters at multiple points because they’re honestly the worst. This is an absolute mockery of Bipolar Disorder and mental illness in general. It was obvious to me early on that Kate was the villain, so the long drawn out story was excruciating. Plus making the mentally ill person the villain is lazy lazy writing, something I don’t expect from Joy Ellis. I’ll stick to Nikki, Jackman, and the nicer side of the fens from now on.

Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.
