Great Book - Terrible Narration
Revisado: 10-26-24
Great content but the narrator made me want to rip out my hair and scream. I bought a paperback instead.

Historia
After Eric Davis spent over 16 years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time. Without a father figure in his own life since the age of 15, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he'd fought so hard to forge when his children were young - particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one's own.

More About Kids Than Sons
Revisado: 03-11-24
The title got me. The contents not so much. I wanted something specific. Something masculine. But this fell short by talking less about sons and more about Seal training followed by an attempt to translate such training to being a father, not of a son, but children in general. Maybe I was confused about the book summary or maybe I was tricked. Either way, I am somewhat disappointed. There are some tips and reminders (such as not "checking out") but nothing motivating and visceral. Nothing that makes me want to pound my chest and howel into the night and be proud of being a man and encourage me to pass that passion to my son. I'll keep looking. Perhaps sports psychology would be a better place to look. At least there it feels more primal.

Historia
In this groundbreaking audiobook, neuropsychology professor Chris Niebauer explains how after decades of research on the brain, Western science may have inadvertently confirmed a fundamental tenet of Buddhism: anatta, or the doctrine of "no self". Niebauer shows how findings in neuropsychology suggest that our sense of self is actually an illusion created by the left side of the brain and that it exists in the same way a mirage in the middle of the desert exists: as a thought rather than a thing.

Garbage
Revisado: 05-24-23
Confuses right and left brain all the time and uses the fallacies and categorizations that he speaks against. there are so many contradictions in frustrating moments in this book that I wish I could return it.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Boated
Revisado: 12-20-22
I stuck it out to the end but damn! Boated! Almost all of King's books are bloated with play by play descriptions of the breathing of each character and their great grandparents. It felt like work getting through this book.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Imagine there was an evil alien society that had this bizarre interest in hunting humans for leisure. Now, imagine they prepared a full guide to teach their own kind how we think, socialize, and most of all, how to spot our weaknesses. Finally, imagine that you got your hands on a copy of one of those guides. Wouldn’t you want to read it to understand if there really is a threat? If there was, wouldn’t you want to learn what the aliens know about us to better prepare to defend yourself and those you love?

Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Decent overview. No great detail but well written and the narration was good. I found it interesting that people who may be lying do not use contractions. Where do they come up with this stuff? lol

Historia
This text concisely puts forward the case for a form of nihilism - fusing thoughts from Hume, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche, amongst others. It forcefully argues that morality as we know it is a power structure disguised as knowledge; that law is based upon this false idol; and that thus power is, in fact, the basis of all life.

When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.
