This book is a bit more somber than a lot of Sedaris's older works, dealing more with his family in the present and their grief than old stories and recollections. As a result, it's more poignant and touching than many of his previous works as well, while still delightfully funny and entertaining. Live recordings (3 of the chapters) are always a bit "grainy" sounding, but they do lend a little more life to the presentation. Still, I wish the recording itself, not the performance which is always amazing, was of higher quality. Occasionally made listening difficult.

This book is overblown and I love it. The author's reading meets the drama without overdoing it, which would be very easy for this novel. Recommend listening at a higher speed, but I love this audiobook.
