As always Mark Boyett did a fantastic job.

Story was interesting but felt like it had some holes in it when compared to other recent SF I have read - nothing to make me drop the book but did kind of break the suspension of disbelief.

I felt the captain was not written well. We are set up to believe that he is a great captain but then makes a bunch of rudimentary mistakes. Holds his crew responsible but then does those same things himself. Overemotional, etc. I have a hard time seeing a person with these tendencies making it as far as he did or being as successful as he was supposed to be.

The moon is hit by some sort of object that fractures it leading to an exponential breakup and an eventual hard shower of rock onto the Earth. This story focuses on the survival of humanity by building an orbiting colonly over a period of two years to ride out 5k years of unusable Earth.

The story progresses well with the world banding together to solve the problem. Just when everything is looking good Hillary Clinton shows up and gets mad that people are not bowing to her. She builds a faction and this splits the surviving humanity into two groups, when her group runs away so she can lead it in unison it ends up killing nearly all of the non-hillary faction. Her faction goes on to radiation poisoning, starvation, and cannibalism. 95% of the remainder of humanity in space dies from these two events.

She goes on to want to rejoin the groups and make peace and ends up killing off all but seven.

Hillary Clinton goes down as one of humanity's seven greatest heroes for her actions.

I cannot explain this book any other way.

This is my first experience with this author and I am impressed. I am happy with the lack of sex in this book compared to its contemporaries. I have been looking for a good action SF to read to my kids at night and this will be a good intro into the genre.

A mind for sarcasm is necessary to enjoy this work. Those easily triggered need-not apply.

If we do not build a pillar, we will die on this rock. We are at a dead end. At some near point in the future we will be unable to find the resources we need to complete a project like this, and once that happens we are no different than a person confined to a retirement home. Waiting for the unyielding end. Doing a project like this will be much easier if we do it while we still have oil.
