Historia
While the world has made encouraging strides in the fight against global poverty, there is a hidden crisis silently undermining our best efforts to help the poor. It is a plague of everyday violence. Beneath the surface of the world’s poorest communities, common violence—like rape, forced labor, illegal detention, land theft, police abuse and other brutality—has become routine and relentless. And like a horde of locusts devouring everything in their path, the unchecked plague of violence ruins lives, blocks the road out of poverty, and undercuts development.

opens your eyes
Revisado: 03-13-16
Frighteningly eye-opening. However it does not only show us the unbelievably cruel aspects of the life of the poor - it also gives hope, that we can do something to change this situation. It has been done and it worked. A must-read.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

I wish the same story was written differently
Revisado: 03-24-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
...The author uses breathtakingly beautiful ,richly poetic descriptions of the people and the places and the nature and the emotions...
Or in other words the author uses rich descriptions for everything... and it is great to be able to see and express the world in such a way , but sometimes it is just too much to a point where it becomes tiring to listen to the story...
The storyline is great, the characters are deep and developed. However had there been les poetry in every single sentence and every single breath of the characters, and deffinitely less "and"s ( that seemed to substitute at least half of the story's commas) would have made it a much more enjoyable listen.
Maybe the medium - audio - of the book affects the impression too much, but this has been one of the most difficult stories to keep up with and, despite the good story, to stay with.
