Historia
McCullough's John Adams has the sweep and vitality of a great novel. This is history on a grand scale, an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

Amazing, absolutely amazing
Revisado: 01-27-23
I knew very little of the man before starting this book. Having now finished it, I place Adams as one of the greatest Americans who has ever lived.
Awe inspiring life, clear and engaging narration, and expertly researched.

Historia
A gripping, groundbreaking biography of the combative man whose genius and force of will created modern capitalism. Founder of a dynasty, builder of the original Grand Central, creator of an impossibly vast fortune, Cornelius “Commodore” Vanderbilt is an American icon. Humbly born on Staten Island during George Washington’s presidency, he rose from boatman to builder of the nation’s largest fleet of steamships to lord of a railroad empire.

Good recording, tough life
Revisado: 09-14-19
Rockefeller and Carnegie’s biographies were more interesting.
The narrator was clear.and the story well researched.
I just wasn’t as interested in his story (which was filled with legal battles and an ever changing field of enemies) as I was of the two mentioned above.

Brutal and simplistic
Revisado: 03-18-19
The FIRE concept is great and has and will change lives. This book/audio book was very boring to listen to. I feel like it’s can be distilled down to a 1/3 of its current size/length. The narrator was not the best I have heard. The portion on logging how much you spend went on and on.

Historia
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

Great intro to the craft. He’s hilarious!

Good length. Part autobiography and part intro to the field, which he mentions. He’s actually kind of funny.

Historia
Before America joined World War I, a small group of Americans volunteered for the French Foreign Legion to help defeat the Central Powers. Historian David Hanna profiles seven of these volunteers: a poet, an artist, a boxer, a stunt pilot, a college student, a veteran of the Spanish American War, and an advertising executive. All seven men were united in courage; and some, like poet Alan Seeger, paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Amazing story, horrendous French
Revisado: 07-09-18
The content is amazing. The story itself of selfless young Americans coming to France’s aide is fascinating. The recording is clear, but the narrator completely butchered the French language. I speak the language at conversational fluency and at many points (when he cited names, locations, etc.) had no idea what he was talking about . It seemed to get a little better as the narration went on. Still worth getting and hearing this unique history.

Historia
The Scottish-born son of a failed weaver and a mother who supported the family by binding shoes, Andrew Carnegie was the embodiment of the American dream. In his rise from a job as a bobbin boy in a cotton factory to being the richest man in the world, he was single-minded, relentless and a major player in some of the most violent and notorious labor strikes of the time. The prototype of today's billionaire, he was a visionary in the way he earned his money and in the way he gave it away.
