One survivor of the grizzly's rampage tells a bizarre story, but just as Joe begins to suspect the attack is not what it seems, he is brought home by an emergency on his own turf. Someone has targeted a prominent local judge, shooting at him from a seemingly impossible distance. While the judge was not hit, his wife is severely wounded, and it is up to Joe to find answers - and the shooter.

“The volume of the helicopter increased in volume…”
Revisado: 07-26-24
I can’t stop listening to these - but there’s always things in them that make me wonder if the author has an editor. “The volume of the helicopter increased in volume…” ???
C.J. Box always finds a way to use the word acrid too. Who says acrid??? There’s always acrid smoke or an acrid smell. These are not the best written books around, but I have to admit they are addictive. My husband and I can’t get enough of them. I don’t recommend to many people though - I’m too embarrassed to admit I read them.

Some Things to Love, Some Things to Hate
Revisado: 06-23-24
I enjoy the way Box writes some of the rural characters and life. Great to hear about hunting, fishing, wildlife etc. But he really has some weird ideas about nobility sometimes. The ending of this one is really over dramatic. I won’t spoil it - but good grief!

Clever, But Plodding
Revisado: 02-07-24
Mick Heron novels are usually more exciting. This once does get interesting, but it takes time. The narrator is excellent, except for a lot of mouth noises, which are painful. Overall not my favorite by the author. But as always, intricate story.

Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Clever Twists and Turns
Revisado: 05-17-23
This was the most entertaining book I’ve read in ages! So clever - there is always a twist coming. Lots of anti-heroes and dry humor. I am so excited to read others and watch the tv show.

Historia
“You shouldn’t be here. It’s too late....” These, heard over the phone, were the last recorded words of successful celebrity-divorce lawyer Richard Pryce, found bludgeoned to death in his bachelor pad with a bottle of wine - a 1982 Chateau Lafite worth £3,000, to be precise. Odd, considering he didn’t drink. Why this bottle? And why those words? And why was a three-digit number painted on the wall by the killer? And, most importantly, which of the man’s many, many enemies did the deed?

Historia
From the death of Richard III on Bosworth Field in 1485 to the execution of Charles I, after the Civil Wars of 1642-48, England was transformed by two Dynasties. Firstly the Tudors, who won the crown on the battlefield and changed both the nature of kingship but also the nation itself. England became a Protestant nation and began to establishment itself as a trading power; facing down impossible odds it defeated its enemies on land and sea.

Broad View
Revisado: 11-20-17
I'm not a historian but read and listen to a lot of books on history - mainly European and especially British. For me this book helped as a review and reminder of events which is always useful for retaining the information. The book served as review while feeling really fresh and interesting and went at a good pace. I also enjoyed Hutton's references to the way history is written and understood in different ages.

Entertaining and Educational
Revisado: 05-22-15
Where does The 30 Greatest Orchestral Works rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's right up there among my favorite audio books. Professor Greenberg is a fantastic speaker and the content is compelling.
What about Professor Robert Greenberg’s performance did you like?
His performance is very enthusiastic and he uses contemporary quips and analogies to illustrate how timeless this great music is. His arguments are compelling and the way he fleshes out the lives of the artists adds great richness to the enjoyment of the music.
Any additional comments?
This has been really wonderful, however, I recommend you download each orchestral piece in it's entirety, listen to it before and/or after listening to the lecture. Each lecture contains only portions of the music. I also find that if I listened to one right after another I would miss out. It would be better to listen to one lecture, listen to the music and wait a day or so before moving on to another. This isn't really a five hour car ride audio book. More of a daily walk kind of audio book.
