Historia
My perfect life blew up in my face, and I'm still picking up the pieces. The last thing I need is her. A wildflower. A storm. A woman I can't resist. Lotus DuPree is a kick to my gut and a wrench in my plans from the moment our eyes meet. I promised myself I wouldn't trust a woman again, but I've never wanted anyone the way I want Lo. She's not the plan I made, but she's the risk I have to take.

Hooked For Sure

"I have found the one who my soul loves."
This one was "lighter" than Long Shot and I can appreciate that much because Long Shot was a horror movie for me.
Lotus story was heartbreaking but I loved her journey to healing. It was real and raw. I can't imagine having something so horrific happen at 12 years old.
Kenan and his "I will wait until you're ready. Days. Months. Years," energy on their intimacy was perfect.
I have a lot to say about the ex wife and how/why Lotus had to even deal with that. I think there was ENOUGH heaviness to the story that the ex-wife being so difficult wasn't needed! Especially coupled with Simone's emotions & accident and Kenan's accident.
And I felt everyone just kept giving the ex-wife a pass and not checking her. She needed to be chin checked like Chase! She was definitely throwing around her WWT every chance she got.
Even in the end she was just disrespectful for no reason.
I loved the incorporation of scripture, voodoo, and hoodoo. Those were some of my favorite parts of the story and Kenan was open to learning bc he loved her just that much. Glad my girl got her HEA but she deserved a softer story without all the extra drama Age Gap • Single Dad• Check triggers - SA/child abuse/child SA

Historia
Percival Everett's The Trees is a must-listen that opens with a series of brutal murders in the rural town of Money, Mississippi. When a pair of detectives from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation arrive, they meet expected resistance from the local sheriff, his deputy, the coroner, and a string of racist White townsfolk. The murders present a puzzle, for at each crime scene there is a second dead body: that of a man who resembles Emmett Till.

Dead bodies. Crime scenes. Disappearing bodies. Racism. Detectives.
Mississippi.
The Trees was cool. I did not know I was going to be laughing throughout this book while reading about such a familiar and heavy event in history.
This was great for immersive reading.

Terri has always been “the quiet one.” People think she’s shy, but she’s really not. She’s pretty enough, and smart enough, she just hasn’t been particularly…remarkable.

Ian and Terri
Revisado: 03-31-25
Ian and Kate.
Ian and Terri.
I liked Terri and Ian’s vibe when they were alone. Their love connection was strong. Although I don’t know that I liked Ian as an individual. The racial fetish on his end was irritating and I agreed with Terri.
I don’t know that I would’ve given Kate grace with what I found in that drawer…
Nia made me think about what I would do in this situation and I appreciate an author that can bring out those conversations.
