Quinn’s story was as engrossing as the previous instalments of this series. It charts the growing understanding of how his childhood has coloured his approach to his world and is interwoven with the respect that develops for how his chosen partner has faced her childhood challenges.
There’s all the warmth and humour that I wanted from the McCallister family, and surprises and suspense and intriguing glimpses into future character developments.
I was eagerly anticipating ’Next in Line’ and it was even more enjoyable than I’d hoped.

This story is set in the same time frame as Ms Bastone’s earlier story ‘Call Me Maybe’ and is narrated extremely well by a talented duo. The human interest level is high with both of the central characters and I quickly became very interested in how things would turn out for them.

This will be one of my comfort read/re-listen books.

I don’t give a 5 star review lightly. The book has to be more than an enjoyable read. There needs to be aspects that would bring me back to reread and enjoy again. This book had these things that make me certain to visit with it again - characters that were likeable, believable and complex, emotional tugs that tempted me to jump ahead to make certain that everyone would be ok, humour interwoven in the drama, enough complexity to the story arc that I felt pulled through the storyline, and an engaging dog.

My strong advice is to read the prequel to this book first, not only to give yourself the experience of another really great read, but to better understand and enjoy this book.

I hope Ms Jimenez has another book awaiting publication.

The Governess Game is the second book in the Girl Meets Duke series, and we see quite a bit of the original cast from Book 1. This is Alexandra's story. She sets the time on the clocks of the wealthy, and stargazes in her spare time, hoping to find a new comet. Chase is her mysterious Book Store Rake and a potential client for her time-keeping business. He is also the reluctant guardian of a couple of little girls who would have been comfortable in the Addams Family.
The cast of characters have the enchanting quirks that I've grown to depend on in a Tessa Dare novel. From the doll with an unfortunate tendency to die from horrendous diseases,( and hilarious eulogies to match), to inventive sandwich recipes, there is a lot of background entertainment in this story that makes it a memorable experience. The love story is satisfying and hits no jarring notes, such as drawn out confessions or misunderstandings. Both Alexandra and Chase have their own charm and are thoroughly likeable. They just fit.
The narration is sublime. Mary Jane Wells just makes everything better, when it was already really, really good.
I hate having to wait for the 3rd book.

This is a continuation of the Ravenel’s story, following on from Cold Hearted Rake. The character developments that take place are very satisfying, with Winterborne’s character being particularly well drawn. Kleypas does an exceptional job of making her readers care about the cast of interesting individuals that she creates. She doesn’t leave annoying ‘teasers’ about mysteries in the supporting cast members’ histories, but I was still left eager to see what their stories will be. Mary Jane Wells does her usual stellar job of voicing the characters. The Welsh accent is just sublime. This book is well worth multiple listens.
