Fascinating

The title makes sense, but I wasn’t expecting a psychology and biology based human operating manual, which is what I feel like I just read. A paradigm shifting read. The 2nd half is the better half. I got bogged down in the beginning because it’s depressing. It’s setting up the problems of where humanity is currently, which we all hear about ad nauseam, so you could probably skip the introduction.

pretty long, but VERY relevant to living in today's world. This book will be outdated in 10 years, but today, it's perfect. The author goes into practical things you can do right now all the way into theory about why, all the way into why that's how our brains have evolved and what we know scientifically about that. Quite fascinating at times, a little hard to follow some of the more math-based ideas, but that's probably just me. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend it.

both/every side thinks they're the good guys. both/every side overblows how "bad/evil" the other side is.

this book was a good example of just that.

full of real information. as opposed to the opinionated stuff in textbooks that present theories as though they are facts. Bryson isn't afraid to say how much we don't know as he presents the best theories and such. Great scientific overview of the history of life.

Almost every person I know with a large influence has read this book. It talks about values that I already knew for the most part from life experience and other learning. However, this really focuses on specific behaviors that help you, really, to be a better social animal. To have a more enjoyable time in human society.

It's a good story. It is the magnetism from the earth that gives the compass you use to steer your life the ability to find north(where you want to go).

It doesn't point you, it's what you use to point.

High esteem

Should have done the unabridged version. But this was a very moving story. A story about a great man to be remembered. Who's principal goal was to be remembered in high esteem.
