America was on the brink of collapse. The fabric of society was torn apart. The economy was in shambles. Ordinary Americans experienced death by a thousand cuts, and it was coming soon to your neighborhood.

Historia
It's difficult to imagine a nation with a history more compelling for Americans than Russia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was the nation against which we measured our own nation's values and power and with whom war, if it ever came, could spell unimaginable catastrophe for our planet.Yet many Americans have never had the opportunity to study Russia in depth, and to see how the forces of history came together to shape a future so different from the dreams of most ordinary Russian people, eager to see their nation embrace Western values of progress, human rights, and justice.

Not Really a History
Revisado: 04-08-22
I have never had a history not really cover the subject. For example the USSR disintegrated and there is no direct discussion of the event. Too much of this “history” focuses on the intentions of Russian and Soviet leaders not on what really happened. The professor obviously loves socialism and downplays the profound evil of the USSR.

Another Book Series Goes Woke
Revisado: 01-28-22
I have read all of the Spencer novels. Now, in the 48th in the series; Spencer expresses support for an A.O.C. like character and depicts her adversaries as right wing Neanderthals. Why would Ace Atkins distort the legacy of Robert Parker? Sadly; this is the last Spencer novel I will purchase.

Historia
When property developer Connor Clive Blaydon is found dead, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks and his Yorkshire team dive into the investigation. As luck would have it, someone had installed a cache of spy-cams all around his luxurious home. The team hope that they’ll find answers - and the culprit - among the video recordings. Instead of discovering Connor's murderer, however, the grainy and blurred footage reveals another crime: a brutal rape

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

The once great author decides to alienate half of his audience.
Revisado: 07-19-21
Daniel Silva has decided to go far far left and decided the 1/6/21 riot was a Russian inspired insurrection. Further; he insinuates that Donald Trump was pro-Russian; that the discredited Mueller investigation is all truth. He depicts Joe Biden as good. He ignores the pay to play payoffs from Russia and his reversal of Trump opposition to the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany.
I am so sad that one of my favorite authors has decided to become this political.

Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Historia
In Philadelphia - suffering among the country's highest murder rates - the tension between the Philadelphia Police Department and its Citizens Oversight Committee has long been reaching a boiling point. That turmoil turns from bad to worse shortly after the committee begins targeting police shootings - especially those of twenty-seven-year-old Homicide Sergeant Matt Payne, the "Wyatt Earp of the Main Line" - and then the committee's combative leader is found shot dead point-blank on the front porch of his run-down Philly row house.

Awful
Revisado: 10-03-15
What was most disappointing about W. E. B. Griffin and William E. Butterworth ’s story?
Boring in the extreme. Apparently the son can't match the dad.
Any additional comments?
I have read every W.E.B. Griffin novel, many two times. Unfortunately, with sadness I can no longer can put up with the drop in quality of the novels.

Historia
Mexican drug cartels are shooting up the streets of Laredo and El Paso. Somali pirates are holding three U.S. tankers for ransom. The President of the United States is fed up and, as Commander in Chief, has what he thinks is a pretty bright idea — to get hold of Colonel Charley Castillo and his merry band and get them on the case. Unfortunately, that will be difficult. Everybody knows that the President hates Castillo’s guts, and has just had him forcibly retired from the military, and now Castillo’s men are scattered far and wide, many of them in hiding.

Revisado: 02-11-14
What was most disappointing about W.E.B. Griffin and William E. Butterworth ’s story?
The book is a farce. W.E.B. Griffin admits it at the end of the book. Should have said so at the beginning of the book. The first 40 to 50% of the book is a regurgitation of the previous 7 books in the Presidential Agenct Series,,,,soooooo boring.
The cover picture of the book is totally misleading, There is zero action in the book.

Historia
Two dead bodies changed the course of my life that fall. One of them I knew and the other I'd never laid eyes on until I saw him in the morgue. The first was a local PI of suspect reputation. He'd been gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. It looked like a robbery gone bad. The other was on the beach six weeks later. He'd been sleeping rough. Probably homeless. No identification. A slip of paper with Millhone's name and number was in his pants pocket. The coroner asked her to come to the morgue to see if she could ID him.
