I wanted to like this story. I usually enjoy GLH stories. 4 hours in an I’m frustrated. There’s usually a little melodramatics in her stories, but this one is too much. Everything is such a stretch. The heroine?went from having backbone to none. There’s no explanation for why she fears her fiancé (although he is a scoundrel ). This story drags on and on at the wedding day of the arranged marriage the bride doesn’t want. Spoiler: she doesn’t even notice the different groom (this was supposed to be the girl who was top of her class). Mid way into the story she seems to lose her brain. I usually read GLH because I enjoy how the characters show reliance upon God’s grace in difficulties. This lacks even that. The narrator was ho-hum. This Cinderella story is a flop. Waste of a credit.

Edifying listen.

The narrator come across a little wooden at times, but is good when she speaks with an accent for Amy Carmichael . I was looking for a biography rich in God’s word and that would be spiritually edifying. This was that. This teaches faithfully reliance on the Lord and the truth of trust in Christ.

Another great Hamish Macbeth story.

Graeme Malcolm does a terrific job narrating these stories. His voice captures Hamish’s highland brogue perfectly. In this title Hamish is neck deep in trouble.

Music overshadowed the narration

This might have been a good adaptation, except that I could hardly hear the narration over the musical score. I ended up returning after a few minutes out of frustration of not being able to hear the story without straining my ears.

Poor narrator

British characters should sound British. The narrator was inconsistent in her tone when it called for a soft voice and mispronounced words. Very irritating. It ruined what could have been a good listen.

Immature lead female

This was one of my least favourite female characters ever. Chandra is selfish, immature and prideful. There were times when I wanted to slap her. I would like to respect her husband, but he never seemed to call her out for her selfish, thoughtless behaviour.
