An excellent confluence of political discourse
Revisado: 05-17-23
I've been listening to Heaton's The Political Orphanage for about a year or so now, and one fine day, some months back, he featured an episode of We're Not Wrong in lieu of another diatribe on the damage done by restrictive zoning. As disappointed as I was to not listen to him wax poetic about how the zoning regulations killed significant portions of Wallace's lineage, that episode DID introduce me to Jen and Justin. This show has been part of my 'day 1 listen' list ever since.
You likely won't agree with everything they say, but they are honest, and do an excellent job of (usually) backing their opinions with decent rationale. If you like politics, but hate politicians? This is worth your time!

Best podcast found for the policy wonks among us.
Revisado: 05-16-23
This podcast does reasonably deep dives into business before the Congress and hearings in the Congress. The show notes are exhaustive and provide complete citations for every disturbing thing you hear spoken to, and spoken by, our elected representatives. If I had one complaint, it would be that they aren't deep enough dives, as, personally, I feel that many of these issues/episodes could be expanded to 2 or 3 hours easily...
That said, Jen's 'take' is often considerably more 'left of center', but her liberalism is definitely very classical, and she clearly deliniates 'her opinion' from the facts about what is being said, and the responses before the Congress. She is ALSO, harsh to BOTH parties, so, if you are a die-hard partisan on Team Red OR Team Blue, you WILL find some of her opinions offered quite objectionable. Personally, I share this trait, so I find it quite endearing. 🤷♂️
bottom line? An EXCELLENT, well reasoned, well researched podcast, which I look forward to listening to, even when the title sounds like it's going to be boring af. It adds value to my life.

Can bloody hand to hand get boring? Yes.
Revisado: 02-10-19
By the end of book four (actually, book2), the action was positively repetitive, predictable, and simplistic. I could sum it up for you, but I'm not going to. Was there anything other than lots of improbably successful hand to hand (yes, even KNIFE) action with strong, fast, clawed, bullet resistant, infectious, demons? No, not really. In fairness, there were a few scenes where someone where somebody brought appropriate hardware... but somehow I seem to have missed every action where somebody brought out a 50cal to put down a Goliath... I know I would have used it for that, but what do I know, a scar-h ought to do it! So, if things like 'characters', 'plot', 'realistic action', 'plausible behavior', and the like are important in your books? You shouldn't waste your money. Leave this one for the dollar store.

Historia
The White Fleet had been an expression of optimism, a grand expedition to explore the vast reaches of the long-dead empire. Tasked to uncover the secrets of the devastating Cataclysm and to seek and recover the advanced ancient technology that humanity had once possessed, it found something else instead. A new enemy. A vast domain, one with advanced technology, massive fleets, and a genetically-ordered society and hierarchy it intends to impose on all humanity everywhere. The Hegemony is like nothing Tyler Barron and his comrades have ever encountered - but the veteran admiral must find a way to fight the far superior enemy....

this one just to send further into stupidity...
Revisado: 11-15-18
if you are enjoying this series, stop at the end of book six. in book 7 they get stupid, and book 8 just makes them stupider. the stupidity is such that it makes much of the plot and action utterly unbelievable. sorry, but it's the truth. Characters who in other books behaved ingeniously, now behave like total dolts. several of the concepts that drive the story, are patently unbelievable, and that, compounded with the stupidity of the main characters destroys any semblance of quality in the book.

meh. way too many plot holes to be plausible.
Revisado: 06-25-18
The story had a good premise but the plot was well... Full of holes. The characters' behavior was implausible to unbelievable. While this story might be plausible if the world didn't work the way it works and experienced professionals really acted like teenagers, they don't and it does. Add to that absurd decision making by Presidential leadership which (even in this day and age) simply put, wouldn't happen, and you have a story which, simply put, isn't plausible. that's too bad, because otherwise it might have been decent...

Historia
Earth's armed forces have stopped the Lanky advance and chased their ships out of the solar system, but for CDC officer Andrew Grayson, the war feels anything but won. On Mars, the grinding duty of flushing out the twenty-meter-tall alien invaders from their burrows underground is wearing down troops and equipment at an alarming rate. And for the remaining extrasolar colonies, the threat of a Lanky attack is ever present.

Much weaker than 5. Hopefully just filler to 7
Revisado: 05-10-18
Overall I felt this one was considerably weaker than the last. It felt rather short and uninspired. The story moves into a new phase but does so you know relatively uninspired fashion. I hope he's working on book 7, and I hope that takes a good Hefty step forward in the story line. Certainly this could be the set up for that... the filler.

Historia
Mars has been under Lanky control for more than a year. Since then, the depleted forces of Earth's alliances have rebuilt their fleets, staffing old warships with freshly trained troops. Torn between the need to beat the Lankies to the punch and taking enough time to put together an effective fighting force, command has decided to strike now.

It hasn't gotten old yet... still kicking.
Revisado: 05-09-18
This one was pretty damn good. Maybe even the best so far. A fair amount of 'old soldier' mixed with excellent action. Even the narration had the perfect amount of melancholy mixed with proffesionalism. Think Forever War. What else can I say? You won't regret reading it.
