Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Revisado: 04-23-18
The accents from Dawson were a little cheeky, but all in all a good read. The science of living on the moon took a front seat to some of the action and character development, but I enjoyed it. Jazz is a little much...one of those "strong" female characters everyone likes to have in these stories. She does tons of things that don't make a lick of sense, but plots gotta plot.

Historia
The Corrections is a grandly entertaining novel for the new century--a comic, tragic masterpiece about a family breaking down in an age of easy fixes. After almost 50 years as a wife and mother, Enid Lambert is ready to have some fun. Unfortunately, her husband, Alfred, is losing his sanity to Parkinson's disease, and their children have long since flown the family nest to the catastrophes of their own lives. Enid has set her heart on an elusive goal: bringing her family together for one last Christmas at home.

Vapid, Pointless, Sad
Revisado: 08-23-16
This book probably rings true to a certain audience, a group of people I hope never to meet. The characters don't grow. They aren't just flawed, they are terminally selfish, boorish, and 2-dimensional. You won't like them. (Again, I shudder to think that you might relate to them.) Perhaps, you could love to hate them, or smugly compare them to people you know. (That idea is also shudder-worthy.)
There is no plot to speak of.
The book is myopically (satirically one can hope) middle-aged, upper-middle class, white male.
If that is not you, you will feel alienated from this work and its themes. I don't think I've ever read anything so distinctly this one demographic in my life and I'm including classic lit in my estimation.
It has funny moments, but it is mostly sad, like the second half of Don Quixote where everyone makes funny of a confused and ailing man ( even though in this case the ailing man is racist, mean, tyrannical etc. and you can't really feel compassion for him).

Great Lessons If You are Ready for them

Great
Revisado: 06-20-16
Writing talent is often thought of as something you have or you don't, a magical mystery bestowed on a few fortunate individual who go on to write great books and can called themselves WRITERS.
This book calls bull on that notion and teaches, yes teaches you how to be a better builder of sentences.
I don't think any other book I've ever read teaches writing-- and I graduated college with a degree in writing. Most other books just give vague advice like 'write concise sentences' or 'avoid adverbs' or 'write every day' or 'get feedback from other writers.'
This is fine, but it doesn't improve you writing consistently. It's hit or miss because you can't see the underlying principles.
This book explains how to write a better sentence, building it the way a mason builds a house, brick by brick, step by step. It's exactly what is says on the tin.

This book, The Step-by-Step Guide to Writing a Novel for Fiction Writers and Novelist is a one-of-a-kind book. It is different from anything you would have listened to because it reverses the usual order of things. It does not teach you the same old tips and tricks. Basic Information, Strange Narration
Revisado: 02-19-16
The information is good, basic stuff. If you've taken a creative writing class, you probably already know everything this book touches on. If you've never written in your life, this book would be a good starting point.
The narration is below average. The guy doesn't enunciate well. I had to rewind a few times to get his meaning.

Revisado: 05-21-15
It's rare that one has reason to say this, but it's true. The book is preachy. The character motivations are murky and don't make much sense. However, the narration is excellent,

The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron. In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director.

R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.

A Wordy Zombie
Revisado: 02-23-15
It was as I expected, save the zombie R was very verbose and repetitive. Other than that a fairly common zombie storyline, at least in these days of 'sympathetic' zombies.

A Long And Winding Road
Revisado: 02-17-15
This is a story of American immigrants, not necessarily of America itself. Of gods pulled from heart and mind when an immigrant leaves his home for alien shores.
The new gods, the narrative (nominal) black hats of the story are probably more like America's real gods.
It is a strange tale, but interesting if you like mythology. The main character, Shadow, is a bit wooden, but I feel that was the author's intention. Still, it makes it hard to empathize with all the varied and bizarre things that happen to him.

The moon beamed down genially on the turrets and battlements of Blandings Castle. Sleep, however, eluded Clarence, ninth Earl of Emsworth. To be compelled to play host to his younger son, Freddie, was enough; add his sister Veronica and a chap called Tipton Plimsoll and you have a situation at which the doughtiest earl might quail...

This is Wodehouse at his best. Ridiculous unlikely circumstances abound with a whole lot of laughs. The narrator is wonderful, maybe not as believable with some of the voices as other narrators, but utterly charming.
