Historia
Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

an absolutely wonderful story set in the same universe as American Gods. is it a sequel? a prequel? a side quest? doesn’t matter.

Good Story, Mediocre Narration
Revisado: 11-26-18
the narrator doesn’t always seem to know what he’s reading, and is occasionally off key (emotionally). he also tends towards stereotyping the voices of non-caucasian characters; particularly asians and latinos.

Historia
In a sweeping saga of music and vengeance, the acclaimed author of The Vampire Chronicles draws listeners into 18th-century Italy, bringing to life the decadence beneath the shimmering surface of Venice, the wild frivolity of Naples, and the magnetic terror of its shadow, Vesuvius. This is the story of the castrati, the exquisite and otherworldly sopranos whose graceful bodies and glorious voices win the adulation of royal courts and grand opera houses throughout Europe. These men are revered as idols - and, at the same time, scorned for all they are not.

a Truly Great Story
Revisado: 10-30-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! This was the perfect 'gay/coming of age and beyond' story. The characters were well written, the story was engaging and romantic (without being ridiculously unbelievable). The reader did a wonderful job differentiating between characters and giving them personalities. I, literally, laughed and cried.
What did you like best about this story?
its accessability: it seemed like an actual memoir one of my friends could've written.

Historia
Do you believe in love at first sight? Paul Auster doesn't. Paul doesn't believe in much at all. He's thirty, slightly overweight, and his best features are his acerbic wit and the color commentary he provides as life passes him by. His closest friends are a two-legged dog named Wheels and a quasibipolar drag queen named Helena Handbasket. He works a dead-end job in a soul-sucking cubicle, and if his grandmother's homophobic parrot insults him one more time, Paul is going to wring its stupid neck.

Great Book, Very Poorly Read
Revisado: 10-29-14
If you could sum up Tell Me It's Real in three words, what would they be?
READ the book
Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Lesley’s performances?
probably not. his talents seem to have been stretched very thin with this one. his performance as the main character (Paul) was great,, but the rest of his voices were a mess. maybe there were too many characters for him to juggle? most were spoken too low, too breathy and monotone to be understood. there were many times when he didn't seem to understand what he was reading and put the wrong emotion/emphasis behind it.
Who was the most memorable character of Tell Me It's Real and why?
the main character/narrator. He's funny, down to earth, hystrionic and overly-dramatic; in short: the prototypical 30 year old gay white man.
Any additional comments?
the pauses between chapters are terribly long. the 1st few i had to check my iPhone to make sure it hadn't shut off on me.

Meh. There is Worse 'Gay Fiction' You Could Read
Revisado: 05-17-14
Would you try another book from M. J. O'Shea and/or Tom Vilot?
possibly, if the price was right; though there were a few too many - long and drawn out - sex scenes, and some of the characters make ridiculously out of character choices, it wasn't a bad story.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
most: the growth of the main characters.least: the heavy handed and over-written porn scenes.
Did Tom Vilot do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
yes, though his 'narrator voice' is a bit too monotone.
Do you think Coming Home needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
NEEDS? no. but another one wouldn't be a terrible idea.
