Historia
The biggest redwood trees are over 1,000 years old, rising more than 35 stories in what's left of the once-vast, ancient redwood forest. Believed to be impossible to ascend, these majestic giants have remained unexplored until recently, when a tiny group of daring botanists and amateur naturalists discovered a lost, dangerous, and hauntingly beautiful world high above California.

not worth a listen
Revisado: 08-15-24
there is way too much of young men doing absolutely stupid stupid things that could lead to their death. the author really played up those moments and though there is some interesting scientific info sprinkled in, it is mostly about how stupid young men can be and glorifying it.

God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

How did I miss this when I was younger?
Revisado: 02-04-23
This was an interesting story written in 1990s and set now, or essentially now. I'm glad Butler's world isn't what we are living in, but I could see it happen. I enjoyed and recommend it.

One of the best books I've listened to
Revisado: 09-24-22
This was excellent, I am so thankful that Audible decided to include this title in their offering. Suzanne Simard has done amazingly important work that most of the world is only dimly aware of. This book makes her work so much more accessible. Good story, excellent research. Read (or listen to) this book!

and never fails to entertain. I met her writing first when my girls were teenagers, and discovered I loved her writing. It is hopeful and positive, with enough of an edge to keep you going. The reader in this book does an incredible job with all the voices - she is great. I'm looking forward to listening to another one. Oh, and did I mention the main characters are cats?! what a delight.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

I'm a botanist too.
Revisado: 09-14-21
I haven't seen the movie so had no idea what to expect. I enjoyed that Mark Whatney is a botanist as I am one too, but that was a pretty weak role throughout, even though he keeps saying I'm a Botanist, really he is more of a farmer. The reader is great, the story sometimes drags, and it feels like the author was deliberately dragging it, not the person reading it. It was worth a listen.

One long complicated story
Revisado: 08-22-21
I enjoyed this story, but I did struggle to complete it due to its length. It jumps around from 3 separate characters in World War 2 to a character in the 1990s. Especially in the beginning of the story, it was difficult to follow what was happening, as I know very little if WWII, nothing of crypto, nothing of the Phillipines where much of the action occurs, but Stephenson is a delight, and this book did not disappoint. I enjoyed it, and feel like I learned something too.
