Historia
"The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg" is a piece of short fiction by Mark Twain. It first appeared in Harper's Monthly in December 1899, and was subsequently published by Harper & Brothers in the collection The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg and Other Stories and Sketches (1900). Some see this story "as a replay of the Garden of Eden story", and associate the corrupter of the town with Satan. Hadleyburg enjoys the reputation of being an "incorruptible" town known for its responsible, honest people that are trained to avoid temptation.

Flat narration
Revisado: 07-04-23
I bought this without listening to the sample, sadly. My mistake. I found the narrator to be clear and easy to understand, but flat. He was just reading, not performing. If the reader can't even put as much energy into it as he would if he were reading it to his kids, I can't listen. I spend my time distracting, wondering why this person chose to do this work. It's possible it's a volunteer recording from Librivox, which is admirable work to do, but then shame on audible for charging for it.

The Bolsheviks promised that they were building a new society, a workers’ paradise that would change the nature of mankind itself. What they ended up constructing was the largest prison the world had ever seen: a Union of Soviet Socialist Republics that spanned half the globe.

Michael Malice’s books are always worth reading.
Revisado: 04-01-23
Having said that, I came here to complain about this audiobook. Mr. Malice should really hire someone to read his books. I know there’s tons of amateurs out there who would love a chance to get an audiobook credit for a reasonable fee. I typically speed books up because I want to be able to read them faster. With this book, I had to slow it down because his diction is so poor, and he reads so fast that I can’t understand what he’s saying, and I lose the thread. He’s also very monotone. It’s almost as if he can barely tolerate doing the audiobook and just wants it to get over with as quickly as possible. I mean, he could at least pretend that he’s talking to a friend across the table, instead of like he’s embarrassed to be up at the front of the class giving a report that he’s reading as quickly as he can so he can go sit down at his desk. I like Michael Malice and I like his podcast and his work. I always enjoy his point of view, and I know the content of this book is very valuable. I just wish he wouldn’t read it himself.

Dr. Judy Mikovits is a modern-day Rosalind Franklin, a brilliant researcher shaking up the old boys' club of science with her groundbreaking discoveries. And like many women who have trespassed into the world of men, she uncovered decades-old secrets that many would prefer to stay buried.

Bombshell. I am glad this was a NYT best seller.
Revisado: 06-24-20
A deep revelation of corruption in science by a scientist who has maintained her integrity even after having her career destroyed. Mariel Hemingway's acting skills shine forth in her ability to make dry material interesting. I do hope she will get some training on diction, timing, and put a little more effort into correct pronunciation. She could be an All-Star narrator.

Historia
Hear Dickens' gift for social commentary in this classic story of the poor orphan, Oliver. In this time-tested classic, Dickens aimed to expose the filth of the London underworld as well as attack the inhumanity of the New Poor Law of 1834. This audiobook is a stunning performance by the award-winning Miriam Margolyes, who is considered one of the most knowledgeable and brilliant actors and interpreters of Dickens.

Miriam Margolyes is fantastic
Revisado: 12-20-19
I checked this out from my local library about 18 years ago and listened while long distance driving. I have forgotten most of the books and narrators from that time, but I never forgot Miriam Margolyses' performance of Oliver Twist. This has been imported from those old cds, so there are many interruptions of "Chapter (whatever), continued" right in the middle of the audio. Also, the sound quality isn't great, so you really need good speakers or earbuds to listen to it. It just doesn't achieve a very high volume, so if you have hearing problems, you might be frustrated. But in all, it's worth it to hear this narrator who is so good, when she's performing a man's voice, you forget she's a woman. She has a distinct voice for each and every character - in a Dicken's novel!

Historia
The most influential work of the entire Spanish literary canon and a founding work of modern Western literature, Don Quixote is also one of the greatest works ever written. Hugely entertaining but also moving at times, this episodic novel is built on the fantasy life of one Alonso Quixano, who lives with his niece and housekeeper in La Mancha. Quixano, obsessed by tales of knight errantry, renames himself ‘Don Quixote’ and with his faithful servant Sancho Panza, goes on a series of quests.
