Mostly Great
Revisado: 08-04-24
Humor and sarcasm that will not appeal to everyone, but if you like the Bill Maher HBO show or are center left politically, you should enjoy this book. Not 5 stars for me because I think he goes overboard on Covid, nutrition and obesity and gives some misleading information. Cheers.

Historia
The United States, the richest country on earth, has more poverty than any other advanced democracy. Why? Why does this land of plenty allow one in every eight of its children to go without basic necessities, permit scores of its citizens to live and die on the streets, and authorize its corporations to pay poverty wages?

Need for Change
Revisado: 04-15-24
A book that describes well the income inequality and injustice in the American economy. It also suggests a variety of solutions. At times the author is a bit preachy and presents controversial remedies that may be unrealistic. But hats off for a good effort.

Historia
We live in an age of medical miracles. Never in the history of humankind has so much talent and energy been harnessed to cure disease. So why does it feel like it’s getting harder to live our healthiest lives? Why does it seem like “experts” can’t agree on anything, and why do our interactions with medical professionals feel less personal, less honest, and less impactful than ever?

Very useful information. The book will help nearly everyone to better understand the medical care system in the U.S., the use of randomised controlled trials to evaluate medicines and treatments, medical misinformation and how doctors practice medicine.

It’s OK to be angry about capitalism. Reflecting on our turbulent times, Senator Bernie Sanders takes on the billionaire class and speaks blunt truths about our country’s failure to address the destructive nature of a system that is fueled by uncontrolled greed and rigidly committed to prioritizing corporate profits over the needs of ordinary Americans.

New Path for America
Revisado: 03-30-23
Bernie can be overly enthusiastic, but it’s hard for me to disagree with most of what he says. He is deeply concerned about the unfairness of unrestrained capitalism and the undue influence of corporations and wealthy political contributors.

Historia
In the tradition of books by such bestselling physician-authors as Atul Gawande, Siddhartha Mukherjee, and Danielle Ofri, this beautifully written memoir by an emergency room doctor takes place during one of his routine shifts at an urban ER. Intimately narrated as it follows the experiences of real patients, it is filled with fascinating, adrenaline-pumping scenes of rescues and deaths, and the critical, often excruciating follow-through in caring for the patients’ families.
