Historia
Raised outside of Boston, Ivy’s immigrant grandmother relies on Ivy’s mild appearance for cover as she teaches her granddaughter how to pilfer items from yard sales and second-hand shops. Thieving allows Ivy to accumulate the trappings of a suburban teen - and, most importantly, to attract the attention of Gideon Speyer, the golden boy of a wealthy political family. But when Ivy’s mother discovers her trespasses, punishment is swift and Ivy is sent to China, and her dream instantly evaporates.

Left you feeling heavy
Revisado: 04-26-25
I made it all the way to the end but it was rough. The characters were all pretty despicable—not a single one to root for. The story was boring alone and the narrator didn’t help. Unless you want a book that will make you feel terrible for the entire time you listen, stay away.

Historia
When ecologist Carl Safina and his wife, Patricia, took in a near-death baby owl, they expected that, like other wild orphans they'd rescued, she'd be a temporary presence. But Alfie's feathers were not growing correctly, requiring prolonged care. As Alfie grew and gained strength, she became a part of the family, joining a menagerie of dogs and chickens and making a home for herself in the backyard.

Misleading description
Revisado: 07-23-24
This book is 5% about owls and 95% about the author’s endless stream of consciousness and philosophizing about everything from religion to how humans are ruining the world. Clearly the author is someone who is used to giving lectures to a captive audience. If you are looking for charming tale about an owl, you will not find it here. Take a hard pass on this one.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Great story—great narrator!
Revisado: 12-13-22
For those of you considering this book that aren’t into science and worry that you may not get it, don’t worry. Things are well-explained and you don’t need to understand to enjoy the story. It’s great— keeps you interested and the narration adds to the story. Worth the credit.

Couldn’t get into it.
Revisado: 05-10-22
I think the overall premise of the story was good. The problem was the lack of character development at the beginning. Because I didn’t feel connected to the characters, I couldn’t get interested in what was happening to them. Also, the story’s main characters were narrated by different people but they sounded so much alike it was difficult to follow which character’s POV the story was being told from at any given moment. Wanted to like it—just didn’t.

Just blah..
Revisado: 05-03-22
Doesn’t draw you in and keep you interested like a story should. But this may have been somewhat due to the narrator whose tone was slow and depressing— even in the action scenes. Her voice was too quiet and breathy like she would get in trouble if she spoke at a normal volume. I listened at 1.25 speed and it was still too slow. Made it to the end but should’ve quit ahead of time.

Historia
For nearly a century, Victorian London relied on “climbing boys” - orphans owned by chimney sweeps - to clean flues and protect homes from fire. The work was hard, thankless, and brutally dangerous. Eleven-year-old Nan Sparrow is quite possibly the best climber who ever lived - and a girl. But when Nan gets stuck in a deadly chimney fire, she fears her time has come. Instead, she wakes to find herself in an abandoned attic. And she is not alone. Huddled in the corner is a mysterious creature - a golem - made from ash and coal. This is the creature that saved her from the fire.

I rarely dislike audiobooks— I can usually find something in them that I enjoy enough to appreciate the work. But I really struggled with this one. I found this story and characters just so boring and predictable— really disappointing.

Historia
S.T., a domesticated crow, is a bird of simple pleasures: hanging out with his owner Big Jim, trading insults with Seattle's wild crows (i.e. "those idiots"), and enjoying the finest food humankind has to offer: Cheetos®. Then Big Jim's eyeball falls out of his head, and S.T. starts to think something isn't quite right. Even the slobbering affection of Big Jim's loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis, fails to cure Big Jim's debilitating malady. S.T. is left with no choice but to abandon his old life and venture out into a wild and frightening new world with his trusty steed Dennis.

Weird and Rambling
Revisado: 08-05-19
This story felt as though the author’s kids told him what strange characters and situations they wanted the character to experience today and then the author would write the narrative around it. There is no cohesion of story line and it is juvenile at best. The narrator did the best he could with what he was given. Don’t waste your time with this one.
