White Savior Vibes?
Revisado: 07-22-23
I had several frustrations w the book but the main one was that it gave me big white savior vibes? Like these magical people couldn’t help themselves and then enter Linus who discovers magical people are people too. And then he somehow really changes the system after giving people a stern talking to? It felt like it really oversimplified these dynamics and kind of applauded/congratulated Linus throughout the whole book for being able to see that magical people are in fact people. It also felt like Klune didn’t really develop any of the characters beyond being a prop to show how Linus changed from the beginning of the book.
The characters were very cute, but not enough to save this story imo.

Our guide is Claire, a 19-year-old who barely speaks to her bohemian coworkers, but knows when it's time to snap on an antistatic bracelet.

Heads up about animal cruelty scene
Revisado: 11-28-22
There’s a graphic-ish scene about killing mice, if you’re sensitive to that you may want to pass this book up. I wish I had know about it ahead of time.

Historia
Emery Blackwood’s life changed forever the night her best friend was found dead and the love of her life, August Salt, was accused of murdering her. Years later, she is doing what her teenage self swore she never would: living a quiet existence on the misty, remote shores of Saoirse Island and running the family’s business, Blackwood’s Tea Shoppe Herbal Tonics & Tea Leaf Readings. But when the island, rooted in folklore and magic, begins to show signs of strange happenings, Emery knows that something is coming.

Protagonists Personality is Being Heartbroken
Revisado: 11-28-22
This story was well written but the protagonists were two dimensional and had very little identity outside of their love/ heartbreak for each other. The beginning of the story was very repetitive to establish and could have been cut down quite a bit. This book was recommended in fantasy and I think that was a very minor element of the story which I would have really liked to see explored more.
