Historia
The Wig, the Bitch & the Meltdown is a satirical look behind the scenes of Model Muse, a fictional reality model competition show and global phenomenon. Seen through the eyes of our moral compass Pablo Michaels - the heart of production in the helter-skelter world of Model Muse - we look behind the scenes and backstage shenanigans of the fashion/reality TV world. As "The Fixer", Pablo is the man everyone turns to in crisis.

Mean Girls, but it’s America’s Next Top Model
Revisado: 11-30-21
So Jay Manuel has taken the plot of Mean Girls and superimposed it on a fictional version of America’s Next Top Model. Take a somehow simultaneously fresh faced, starstruck and very connected silver-haired, adopted Pablo Michael (Jay) as our Cady Heron and the supremely narcissistic supermodel Keisha Kash (Tyra) as Regina George, and supplement with a barrage of the worst possible caricatures of the most famous faces from ANTM; Runway Coach Miss Thing (Miss J), British Photographer Mason Hughes (Nigel Barker), and Judge/“World’s First Supermodel” Sasha Berenson (Janice Dickinson).
Basically: boy meets supermodel, boy becomes supermodel’s minion. Boy realizes supermodel is evil. Boy tries to fight evil with evil and people start telling him he’s become evil. Tada! Mean Girls, but it’s ANTM. (But not actually ANTM because this is fiction and ANTM exists in this world, but that’s a whole other mess…)
The actor probably made this sound better then it would on it’s own, so there’s that at least. Just go watch Mean Girls, really. They wore it better.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Same Vibes as the Martian
Revisado: 05-24-21
There’s certainly some very different elements in this story that weren’t in The Martian, but it has very much has that same Apollo 13-style cascading errors in space setup where the protagonist now has to brain his way through each issue to survive. There’s Weir’s usual snarky humor and smart but still fallible characters, and in this he goes even deeper to build a very unlikely but relatable hero.
Ray Porter does an excellent job narrating as the main character and it’s an audiobook I didn’t want to stop playing.

Memoirs of a Geisha with Magic
Revisado: 09-15-20
Soooo the story is essentially an Asha (Magic Geisha) telling her life story to a bard. It’s Memoirs of a Geisha with magic thrown in. Even several of the primary patrons she interacts with seem directly modeled after the main male characters in MoaG.
There were several attempts to build up the magical aspects or other sub-storylines that just went nowhere and left me very like “why...?” And there’s a buildup throughout the book where nothing happens in the end. I understand there are sequels to this book, so maybe that’s where the payoff occurs, but the end of the book kind of feels like you read to the end only to discover someone tore the last few chapters out.
Memoirs of a Geisha is a fairly interesting read, so as a knockoff Memoirs with some magicky stuff, it’s okay. If you’re looking for the next great witchcraft tale, probably not it.
I will say the performance is pretty good here, and improved upon a mediocre work, I think. Good character range.

This Narrator, I just can’t...
Revisado: 11-04-18
I can literally listen to computer generated audio most of the time without a problem so I have a fairly high tolerance for shoddy narration, but this is a little bit like having an android read an encyclopedia to a kindergarten class as though he were trying to read a fairy tale. I’m going to get the kindle copy and do some actual reading in my spare time, because I can’t sit through the entire book with this narration.
