Reminded me of The Shining but more visceral
Revisado: 06-29-21
Deeply flawed, 3-dimensional characters haunted by an evil lurking in an "abandoned" theme park. Patrick Lacey wrote one hell of a story that reminded me of The Shining with more of the ooey-gooey good stuff.

Hunger Pangs is a delightful supernatural romp.
Revisado: 06-07-21
Hunger Pangs is a collection of short stories by Scott Moses who takes reader's on a mystical journey to a place where the supernatural roam free and a darkness is always lurking, searching for its next victim. Exorcisms, bargains with frightening entities, unapologetic hauntings, lycan siblings, and vampiric sorrows are just a taste of what you'll find prowling amonst the pages of this anthology.
Hunger Pangs is a delightful supernatural romp with the impassioned prose of Scott Moses. Every single story offers a cast of characters with intense emotional depth. You can feel the sentiment behind each word as though the author knew the entire cast intimately. This is such an incredible debut for an author who is on a clear path to bigger and better things in the world of horror fiction.

Revisado: 05-30-21
This is hands down, one of the absolute best audio narrations I've ever heard. These terrifying tales are brought to life in a provocative fashion by amazing voice actors and dramatic sound editing. Not only that but the stories told in this short collection are horrifying, unique and funny in a twisted way. This is an absolute blast and a must-have audiobook.

Shocking and Disturbing
Revisado: 01-22-21
Anoka is a small town in Minnesota also known as "the Halloween capital of the world." Werewolves, sinister children and pagan witches are just a few of the strange and abhorrent entities that prey on the town's most vulnerable residents. This debut novella includes six short stories and notes by Indigenous author, Shane Hawk.
𝘈𝘯𝘰𝘬𝘢 is a collection of shocking and disturbing short stories by an emerging author. Shane Hawk crafted the perfect blend of Indigenous folklore and supernatural horror for this delightfully terrifying collection. I'm going to be keeping an eye on Hawk as he delivers more, fresh literary frights to unsuspecting reader's. His style is subtle and gripping with a pace that steeps suspense like that of a seasoned horror veteran.

Jeff Strand will have you laughing the whole time!
Revisado: 12-01-20
Curtis Black is a young man that witnessed something horrifying in Fairbanks, Alaska. His best friend's abduction. Curtis saw it all go down but unfortunately, the police cannot find evidence that supports what he saw. After trying to cope with what he assumes is the death of his friend, Curtis pays a visit to the kidnapper. This did not go well. Now, Curtis needs to find a way to avenge his friend and get this psychopath behind bars before he snatches up another kid and murders them too. This will not be easy but there is too much at risk to fail.
I FINALLY took the plunge and indulged my TBR with something by Jeff Strand. I have wanted to read his work for what seems like forever but just didn’t make it happen. AUTUMN BLEEDS INTO WINTER is a fun and quirky read that I really enjoyed. I have always heard that Strand has a way of adding a funny twist to some really horrific scenes and although this book was far from horrific, it is dark and thrilling. The narrative is just so entertaining and kept me deeply rooted in the story. Honestly, I could listen to Curtis Black and Gerald Martin duke it out in an endless barrage of witty interrogation style confrontations forever.
AUTUMN BLEEDS INTO WINTER is an edgy, coming-of-age thrill ride through the vengeful psyche of a stubborn teenager. Jeff Strand will have you laughing the whole time. I definitely recommend this book for anyone needing to get out of their horror comfort zone and read something a little more punchy and edgy. This book is a definite slump buster.

Imaginitive and entertaining collection of horror
Revisado: 11-24-20
LAND OF BONES is a collection of stories that explores a ton of terrifying themes. Reader's will find themselves in the deathly clutches of a sexy rock and roll serial killer, escaping a horde of zombies, walking the creeky halls of a haunted house and looking for some way to fashion a stake to slay a bloodthirsty vampire. This book has a frightening story to satisfy any horror fans unique taste.
Once again, Glenn Rolfe proves how amazingly entertaining and fun the horror genre can be. My favorite story included in the book happens to be the longest one and it is called TOO MUCH OF A DEAD THING. It is a tale of survival horror during the zombie outbreak which I thought could have easily been lengthened into a novel or novella. I would definitely jump at the opportunity to read a zombie story by Rolfe if I ever get the chance. The author has this fantastic ability to write these vividly descriptive scenes. I just find his work very immersive.
Glenn Rolfe crafted a wildly imaginitive and entertaining collection of horror stories that will leave reader's wanting more. More terror, more dread, more Rolfe! The audio narration for this collection is pretty incredible. I highly recommend this book to any fan of horror fiction but I am especially impressed with large cast of narrators that brought these stories to life. Glenn Rolfe is one of my favorite voices in the #HorrorCommunity. In the immortal words of the radest reviewer in horror, Zakk Madness. "GET ROLFED!"

WOW, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY!
Revisado: 11-24-20
A young man's world drastically changes after his father is found dead, hanging from a nouse. Now, he's left trying to scrape by while dealing with a mother who is in the depths of addiction until one day he finds something that calls to him. It's the unfinished musical work his father started which quickly consumes his entire being. His father's legacy becomes the only thing that matters and the music holds a demonic secret that possesses a gateway to the world's end. The Black Heart Boy's Choir is all that stands in the way of an ancient evil that beckons to be let loose.
WOW, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY! I was seriously thrown off guard by this book. The author spends some time defining the protagonist and the technical use of classical music before things get out of control. One second the main character is attending the symphony orchestra and the next he's cutting throats. This is weird fiction at its best. The Black Heart Boy's Choir is a gothic, young adult, coming-of-age style story that is incredibly visceral and packs a serious punch. This is one of those books that is completely unpredictable which makes for a fun reading experience. Who would have thought that demonic possession and classical music would go hand-in-hand with the apocalypse?
The Black Heart Boy's Choir by Curtis Lawson is the story of hellish music that conjures an evil to end all things. I think this book is incredibly interesting and it is one of those reads that blindsides you with some really horrific scenes. I promise you won't know what's coming until you're left with this unsettling feeling of pure dread deep down in your gut. Curtis Lawson is a master of weird, dark fiction and the Black Heart Boy's Choir is a testament to where his twisted mind will go.

This incredible story emotionally gutted me!
Revisado: 11-24-20
Chris is a woman haunted by the memory of her late son Trey. Her life quickly fell apart after finding him dead at the sight of a tragic car accident. Now, she spends her time isolated and alone except for her trips to the memorial site where she found her sons lifeless body and the visits her imagination conjures of Trey. But what if there was a way to see him for real? Blood has a way of calling to dark things that have the ability to grant your deepest desires only, blood isn't always enough. More sacrifices are needed. How far would you go to bring back someone you love?
CROSSROADS is the much anticipated novella by Laurel Hightower. I was really excited to see something new come from Hightower since reading WHISPERS IN THE DARK which was one of my absolute favorite reads last year. She has this amazing ability to emotionally charge her stories with characters that are relateable. I would follow Chris to hell and back in her journey to save her son from deaths harrowing grip. Also, Dan was such an enjoyable character. Ladies, get you a man like Dan.
CROSSROADS is an incredible story that emotionally gutted me. Laurel Hightower is a favorite author of mine in the #HorrorCommunity and in my opinion, anything she writes is a must read. This short novel about a grief stricken mother who will do anything, even appease a dark entity for one last chance to see her son might be one the best books I've read in 2020.
