Historia
“Magick saved my life,” says Damien Echols. When he was on death row for a crime he didn’t commit, Damien used the spiritual practice of magick to stave off intense pain and despair, keep hope alive - and ultimately to manifest his freedom. Now this best-selling author presents an unabridged audiobook on this misunderstood tradition, bringing listeners instruction in key meditations, insights, and practices to reshape our reality with the divine energy of creation.

Based on experience
Revisado: 12-04-21
A clear and modern exposition on the basics of hermetic magick. I enjoyed the author’s openness, it’s rare to hear someone discuss this topic from their own experiences. I find the secrecy around magick and esotericism to be annoying at best and “priestcraft” (as Dion Fortune put it) at worst. Keep going Damien.

This is an important book. Studies in Systems thinking should start at elementary school. It is a hope of mine that all leaders will eventually learn, understand and apply these findings - which it at the same time ancient knowledge.

The chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) turns a critical eye toward such practices as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and psychokinesis. Are such powers really possible? Science says yes. According to noted scientist and best-selling author of The Conscious Universe, Dean Radin, magic is a natural aspect of reality, and each of us can tap into this power with diligent practice.

Real studies into magic
Revisado: 07-30-20
This book opened my eyes to the lack of vision of western models of reality. It gave me historical context as to why they lack vision to this present day - centuries of persecution. And it presented the data, thousands of studies, to assess psi phenomena. The only part I would have left out if I were the author is the chapter on Merlin class magicians.

Take the good with the bad
Revisado: 09-06-18
There are some gems in this book then, quite paradoxically, some cringe worthy sections. It's as if the book is written by two different people. Thought provoking then in places dogmatic. A reviewer earlier said they thought the author is a closet Christian. Agreed.
Sometimes it feels like mythologies are taken too literally. And the final few paragraphs almost negate the author’s entire thesis. “Satan” is going to incarnate in the “final days” is a good example of literalism and christian bias.
The book should be titled Secret History of Europe, not the world. Very little mention of entire continents of peoples and their mythologies.
That said, read it. The general theme of re-interpreting history from the spiritual point of view is well worth the slog. Just try to ignore the blatant manipulation of myths and perhaps facts to fit the authors agenda.

The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience.

The power of mantras comes not from the meaning of the symbols, but from their direct vibrational effect on our body's physiological and energetic systems. Ashley-Farrand also teaches that Sanskrit is an energy-based language and mantras are spiritual formulas for working with this energy. They are desgined to eliminate obstacles as we progress spiritually, and help us to make energetic progress toward good.

Vivid
Revisado: 09-26-17
There's some extremely vivid, almost archetypal imagery here. It made me wonder if Gaiman is versed in pathworking on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. If I listened to this before bed and sleep it would stay with my through the night, in a haunting sort of way.
If you're the hyper sensitive sort, this book will work its way into your subconscious and make you question the heart of humanity and reflect on the brutality of our collective past.
Good luck!

Short and too the point. My criticism with much of the occult and esoteric literature is that they are often long winded, don't emphasize much history and thus we lose context and are not practical enough. These traditions are to be experienced and Baal gets down to it. So far my one objection is (and I have not read all his books) that there is little mention of the importance of spiritual love. It is The Force of integration in ourselves and the world. There are not enough non-self centered practices here - apart from the book on the Ari and Tikkun. My favourite thus far.
