Excellent narration
Revisado: 10-09-09
I chose this version after listening to the audio samples of the many unabridged versions of Sense and Sensibility that Audible offers. I just finished listening to it and I am impressed. Susannah Harker does a fantastic job narrating and the audio quality is excellent as well. If you've only seen the Sense and Sensibility movies, then you need to read the book. The ending is much more fulfilling (as is the entire book) and Jane Austen's writing is full of wit, irony and genius.
You can find a review of the actual book in many places so I won't waste time. I highly recommend this audiobook version though.

Last hour is tedious and ridiculous
Revisado: 10-05-09
I thoroughly enjoyed the story up to the last hour or so. Once the "Lost Symbol" is revealed, the rest is ridiculous. (Didn't an Editor say STOP HERE?) After what those characters had been through they would've been with the authorities, at the hospital or in bed. Not doing what they do. I realize its fiction but Dan Brown pushed it too far. If he had made the final event happened a few days or weeks later it would have been much better.

Too formulaic, shallow characters
Revisado: 09-26-09
This story is far too formulaic. Its the old girl has closed herself of from love because she was hurt. Mr. Perfect comes into her life out of the blue and she is determined not to like him. She resists. Will they overcome life's obstacles and fall in love? You don't need to read the story to know the ending. The characters are not well developed and the location and background story isn't interesting enough to make a good read.

Life isn't nice and tidy
Revisado: 09-26-09
I waited a couple of weeks after finishing this to write a review so I could get some perspective. This is a disturbing story, yes, but its so real. Alice Sebold has the ability to write about real human feelings and thoughts in a way that gets into my head and I feel like I am in the story. This story isn't told, it's shown and experienced. I was engrossed from beginning to end. I could relate with the main character completely. I doubt I will ever forget this book. The storyline is not "normal" and the end is not all wrapped up nice and tidy. That's the point. Life isn't tidy. Messes happen. I think some people will be threatened by the main character's ability to do what she does. It isn't for those who desperately try to deny their humanity.

Ria lived on Tara Road in Dublin with her dashing husband, Danny, and their two children. She fully believed she was happily married, right up until the day Danny told her he was leaving her to be with his young, pregnant girlfriend. By a chance phone call, Ria meets Marilyn, a woman from New England unable to come to terms with her only son's death and now separated from her husband. The two women exchange houses for the summer with extraordinary consequences, each learning that the other has a deep secret that can never be revealed.

Poor audio quality
Revisado: 05-05-09
The audio quality of this audiobook is unsatisfactory. It constantly changes from what seems to be different recording sessions. It is tinny, muted and all places in between. Some better, some very bad and sound like they were recorded in a metal box with varying numbers of socks over the microphone on any given day. Volume is too low and if you use iTunes to adjust the volume in the "Options" the sound gets distorted. In parts there is a second delayed track of the audio faintly heard in the background. One chapter has about 15 minutes of audio that fluctuates in volume every 5 seconds or so, up and down. Its horribly tedious to listen to.
The poor audio quality is even more disappointing because the narrator does an excellent job. I'd give her 5 stars. She has a warm voice with an Irish accent. This is perfect because the main characters are Irish and it is placed in Dublin. She has an enjoyable voice, she doesn't rush the story and allows for pauses in the appropriate points. Many narrators don't do this and it bothers me. I rarely needed to rewind. That is refreshing. She also does not try to do "voices" that sound ridiculous.
The book itself is excellent. I am a big Maeve Binchy fan and this story is superbly told. Ms. Binchy's ability to tell stories of human experience is fantastic. I have been through similar life experiences and Ms. Binchy gets so many of the nuances perfect.
