Historia
Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

Rob Bell blew up the image of a mean unforgiving God.
Revisado: 10-19-24
I’m a doctoral-level professional counselor. I’ve cringed when people claim to be Christian counselors. I worry what version of Christ they represent. What a gift a loving, accepting God Bell represents!

Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

This Christian Believes
Revisado: 11-12-23
Sapolsky again helps us consider hard evidence. We can stop congratulating ourselves and blaming MAGA-ites for the moral decay and selfishness in our country. How can we set our culture up to love our neighbors in the world? We can’t all move to a better place if morally corrupt person is elected.

Encompassing 10 mind-blowing (pun intended) lectures, Big Questions of Neuroscience invites you on a profound journey into the secrets of the human brain. Guided by neuroscience professor Suzana Herculano-Houzel, you’ll investigate some of the most perplexing and misunderstood issues in this cutting-edge scientific field. For example: Can you actually train your brain to become more intelligent over time or are you stuck with the brain you’re born with? Why does it take so long for your human brain to develop and what might some evolutionary benefits be for that tardiness?

MacGyver Ingenuity Saving American Troops
Revisado: 08-13-22
I lean toward diplomacy over blowing up bad guys. Still, this book, written like a "hold-your-breath adventure," made me grateful for what these men and women did to protect embattled troops from 20,000 feet and eight thousand miles away in real-time.

Dang! Now we are responsible!
Revisado: 01-03-21
Fifty years ago I thought our application of behavior therapy would affect the way most parents rear their children. One of my colleagues said we had a moral responsibility to use this technology of behavior change. The learning we are obtaining from Barrett’s and others’ labs seems to fit within this imperative.
