Historia
The Civil War represented a momentous change in the character of war. It combined the projection of military might across a continent on a scale never before seen with an unprecedented mass mobilization of peoples. Yet despite the revolutionizing aspects of the Civil War, its leaders faced the same uncertainties that have vexed combatants since the days of Thucydides and the Peloponnesian War.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

When honor and heroes meet
Revisado: 02-17-24
As an orphan (now 58) I have always felt that each person who ever went to war or that served, did so for me. For a kid that had no family, no father and no one who ever stood up for me in life's trials, these people were willing to give it all. One of the very deepest respect's that I have is for each and every one of you! I have always tried to do what was right, to respect others and to make you proud in my own way. You freely put yourselves on the line for a kid that was always counted out, if ever even counted at all. You gave me (in some way) a reason to believe that I truly did matter. That I was worth more than a mother or father could ever express, and yet we had never met. You gave me pride, self-reliance and self-respect when all the world had given me was isolation, desolation, loneliness and pain. But I was worth the ultimate price. You were willing to lay down your lives for a kid lost in the foster system and raised in a garage, to you I mattered. I know that none of you signed up just to protect me, but that didn't tarnish my respect and admiration for all that you did. You traded your dreams for nightmares, and your youth for me to be given a chance for hope through hard work. I hope and pray that I never let you down and that I helped as many of you along the way and I never would except payment and hardly even a thank you. From the deepest part of my heart and with all of my respect THANK YOU for each and every single second of your service and for giving me a life and value. May God bless you, our country and the men and women who are serving, have severed and who will serve, you are my heroes!
From the kid in the garage

This is an amazing story
Moment's are captured, the temperature can be felt unequivocally from day to day and chapter by chapter. You are taken throughout the main character life. Both in pleasure and pain, shame, frustration self-loathing and doubt. But when it comes to standing up for other's who have been wronged, miss judged or pushed aside the young boy rise's to be a better man than his circumstances themselves had made him out to be. At some point it will surely happen to anyone who's brave enough to live life and who's not wanting to be just another person on this train called time!

A couple of these I totally had forgotten about
Revisado: 11-01-23
Take a deeper dive into the stories that we can't clearly remember and yet the one's that we can't forget!
This is a great mix of who done it's and got ya's, that aren't just going to tell you that someone might have done something and so on. These are true who done it's with some leaving you guessing (after a lot of facts and insights) about this person or that person and the possibilities of not just who but why for multiple people... Great job all the way around with this one.
Thanks for the trip down Mystery Lane

Dee Brown's eloquent, meticulously documented account of the systematic destruction of the American Indian during the second half of the 19th century uses council records, autobiographies, and firsthand descriptions. Brown allows great chiefs and warriors of the Dakota, Ute, Sioux, Cheyenne, and other tribes to tell us in their own words of the battles, massacres, and broken treaties that finally left them demoralized and defeated.

Revisado: 10-29-23
Timeless and priceless
The world is full of winners and losers of war, and the winners always write their own interpretation of the results. Yet sometimes we get a chance to hear from the other side as well. In this case we are privy to just that, the other side of a sobering story. Thank you for sharing this book with us.

Historia
Though known for his classic novels of adventure and coming of age, Mark Twain is equally esteemed for his short stories, which abound with the colorful characters and often comic antics readers have come to expect from his longer works. Included here is "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," a wild yarn involving a case of mistaken identity, a gambler who'd bet on anything, and an unusual frog named Daniel Webster.

That good ol Mark Twain
This is a short story but I was raised in the Sonora/Angles Camp area so to me it's a great one! Samuel Clemens knew how to take something that he'd seen or heard about and break it down to be and edge of your seat story lol. If this is your last Mark Twain story or your very first one, it's most assurably worth the time to listen to.

Historia
In the early 18th century, the Pirate Republic was home to some of the great pirate captains, including Blackbeard, "Black Sam" Bellamy, and Charles Vane. Along with their fellow pirates - former sailors, indentured servants, and runaway slaves - this "Flying Gang" established a crude but distinctive democracy in the Bahamas, carving out their own zone of freedom in which servants were free, Blacks could be equal citizens, and leaders were chosen or deposed by a vote.

In this powerful memoir, Weathers describes not only his escape from hypothermia and the murderous storm that killed eight climbers but the journey of his life. Amazing an humbling book
Revisado: 09-19-23
What a great book (especially for men) to read.
It shows you the life of a worldly man. And takes you from the highest point in the world, and to the closest and lowest edge of dispair and death. He (the writer) also humbly talks about his pride and self-centeredness through to his realization of what really matters in life. It's a story of a man who physically and intellectually both change in not only the same circumstances but also in the very same body. Outstanding job all the way around! Highly recommend

I listened to the book yet as I did I probably spent more time in my minds eye back in my second story English classroom where I had first read it. It was both a great book and a nice stroll back throughout the hallways and campus always trying to beat the bell so as not not be early (lol) or late to the next class.

In this detailed and fascinating account of the legend of the "Wizard of the Saddle," we see a man whose strengths and flaws were both of towering proportions, a man possessed of physical valor perhaps unprecedented among his countrymen. And, ironically, Forrest - the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan - was a man whose social attitudes may well have changed farther in the direction of racial enlightenment over the span of his lifetime than those of most American historical figures.

Whomever wrote this book 📚 did their research very well.
George Stuart Bedford was a great friend of mine for years and years. And we would talk about the entire family throughout the generation's and this book is the closest thing to those conversations that I have ever come across. This is an outstanding look past the myths, rumors and stories of a controversial man who's footprint still stands in the story of the beginning of this great country. It's an amazing and insightful look into the life and history of Nathan Bedford Forest. And is worth your valuable time if you have any real interest into the true history of a complicated and controversal figuring American history.
