Syrup Sandwiches is a powerful story about a young Black boy who defeats the odds. Anthony Owens shares how he became a successful man as he had to rise above the expected outcome for a child raised in poverty. Even though he was subjected to neglectful, abusive men, Anthony understood the importance of breaking this cycle to become the caring and responsible father he never had.

Must-Read for Anyone Seeking Inspiration
Revisado: 07-07-24
In a world hungry for authenticity, Anthony Owens’ memoir, "Syrup Sandwiches," stands as a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration, guidance, or simply a heartfelt story that reaffirms the importance of fathers in our children's lives. From his humble beginnings, through his service in the Navy, to his extraordinary achievements, Owen' book shares a life story that resonates deeply with anyone striving to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams.
What makes this memoir truly exceptional is Owens’s ability to intertwine personal anecdotes with universal truths, offering profound insights into the human experience. Each chapter unfolds like a conversation with an old friend, where laughter and tears flow freely, leaving readers enriched and enlightened. Through his words, we witness not just a life lived, but a legacy of courage and compassion that continues to inspire long after the final page.
More than once, I found myself sitting in my garage, waiting for the chapter to end because I had to know what was happening with Anthony and his brother.
Mr. Maliek Washington, the narrator for "Syrup Sandwiches" has a very soothing voice and delivers a powerful performance that enhances the memoir's impact. Washington's narration brings Owens' story to life with a resonant and emotive voice that captures the essence of each moment.

Compelling Thought Provoking Story
Revisado: 03-17-24
The story delves into complex themes of loss, redemption, and the human psyche. Set in a small town plagued by a series Marino's writing is rich in atmosphere, with vivid descriptions that bring the characters to life. The narrative is suspenseful and intricately woven, keeping readers guessing until the very end. "Bury the Child" is a compelling exploration of the darkness that lies within us all, and the lengths we will go to confront it. I am looking forward to seeing what this imaginative new Author releases. hopefully something soon!!

I finished it out of pure will power
Revisado: 09-27-23
I've really had a hard time finishing this book. it went by all the great reviews. but I didn't have the same experience. It's very tedious and hard to listen to. The performance is awesome, I just found the story to be dull. I won't be finishing the series.

Revisado: 04-25-23
I bought this book because I like the old man's war series. I thought this would enhance or maybe add to it since it was put on here as book 4.5. I have to say I struggled just to listen to the one hour of this book. very disappointed.

Love this series
Revisado: 09-28-22
I found this book very entertaining and I'm excited to see what tje future holds for this author. IMHO some people take it a little too seriously when it comes to some of the references they consider political. srop looking at it from the lens if todah and hust accept not eveeything is politics. It is the world he created so hit the eaay button and stop trying to find the political Easter Eggs. Personally I didn't get the vibe I get with some other writers ( cough** Stephen King) that an agend waa being written with a story tacked on. I didnt feel the author trying to shove his ideology in my face. My only complaint is it reminded me of Game of Thrones in regards to all my favorite characters dying. Jeff don't take some of the reviews too seriously. Some of us really do love the world you created and are looking forward to your next book.. So don't take too long. Dr V

Unnecessary Political Grandstanding Interjected
Revisado: 08-26-22
What has the world come to that I have to listen to political crap in my Stephen King book? Don’t get me wrong, he is one of my favorite authors, but I must give him a big fail on this book. I wanted to enjoy this story but for some reason Stephen King kept interjecting political issues that added no value to the story. In the beginning of the story, it was stated the character didn’t really care about politics, but it didn’t stop him from describing people by their politics, judging their character by their politics, discussing red vs blue states, Donald Trump, or Hillary Clinton. The political stereo typing was bad enough but to bring up politics every time the protagonist meets or talks to another character really turned me off. If the character doesn’t care about politics, then why bring up who the characters voted for? It adds nothing to what could possible be a great story. I guess what I am trying to say is I don’t listen to Stephen King to hear a discussion of politics. I listen to enjoy the story conjured by the master of horror and suspense. If I want to hear cringe worthy political junk I would turn my TV on and listen to FOX, CNN, MSNBC, or any of the other self-grandiose stations that seem to gain great pleasure in attacking anyone who doesn’t agree with them.

All the stories in this collection from Stephen King are related to the Vietnam War. As the characters develop over the next four stories, King's version of the Vietnam War becomes one of his most frightening tales ever.

Not Steven King like at all.....
Revisado: 04-30-19
The first story was really good. I couldn't stop listening. I had high hopes for the rest of the book. I listened to the second book for a few hours. It is so boring I had to force myself to listen. The narration was good, only so much you can do with a bad story line. I finally gave up. It was too sappy, too political, and not Steven King like at all. I couldn't even finish it. I couldn't bring myself to listen to one more detail of hearts games or the protesting the Vietnam War. Not sure if I will even try the third story.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 03-17-19
I'm glad I didn't read the reviews on this before I decided to select it for one of the Monthly specials. I might have passed up on this hidden jewel.. I thought the story was great it was original and not the same old sci-fi hashed over and over again. This book actually caused me to look up junk DNA to find out it's real.im In my humble opinion of their narration was fine, Im not sure what the complaints were about, The narration fit the story. My biggest disappointment was finding out that this author doesn't have any other books on audible. I Hope to see some soon.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.
