Engaging, entertaining, and insightful
Revisado: 09-08-23
This book mixes fun vignettes (a spoon full of sugar) with some detailed and sometimes complex discussions of Plato's life, thoughts, and works (the medicine). the combination works well. The philosophy is comprehensive enough to be satisfying while avoiding the temptation to get mired in the kind of complexity which is of interest only to Philosophers. not a light book, but if you're willing to pay attention, well worth the effort.

Historia
Best-selling author Peter Kreeft presents a series of brilliant essays about many of the issues that increasingly divide our Western civilization and culture. He states that "these essays are not new proposals or solutions to today's problems. They are old. They have been tried, and have worked. They have made people happy and good. That is what makes them so radical and so unusual today. The most uncommon thing today is common sense".

A little dated

Full of both meat and truth
Revisado: 10-21-22
This book is both thought provoking and convicting because it forces one to confront one's own weaknesses. a bit of a rant at the beginning, it goes on to describe both the reason and justification for the author's strong feelings. The book's arguments are powerful, clearly thought through, and logically laid out. It contains so much food for thought that I have gone on search of a printed copy so I may underline and ponder at leisure.

His books have sold millions and include classics like Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Yet C. S. Lewis was not always a literary giant of Christian faith. How did he evolve from staunch atheism to become one of the most beloved and renowned Christian authors of our time?

Excellent insights into Lewis' spiritual journey

Well worth the listen for any Lewis fan or anyone wishing to understand the workings of a first date mind coupled to an insightful intuition and uniquely Irish spirituality.
I had expected to hear the stage play but got something very different, and in many ways, deeper and better.

I used to recommend only one book to an intelligent person seeking insights into the Christian faith: "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis. Now I recommend two. Of these, "The Reason for God" is the more appealing to a modern audience.

Kreeft is A superb lecturer with profound insight into his subject. This course offers A clear and We'll organized distillation and explanation of Aquinas' thought.
Still, very dense stuff. Recommend getting the study guide. Worth going through several times... Once as overview and again for nuance and detail.

Best of the best
Revisado: 05-12-20
I have taken a number of excellent Philosophy courses through The Great Courses. This one is by far the best. Professor Kane does a masterful job of describing the classical, modern, and postmodern Philosophical Systems, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each. His solution for bridging the seemingly unbridgble divide among these systems While avoiding the twin pitfalls of relativism and dogmatism is both Insightful and relevant to our modern Philosphical discourse. Hie ye hence and listen to what he has to say. It will be time we'll spent.

Through the ages, mankind has pursued questions of faith in something beyond the world of ordinary experience. Is there a God? How can we explain the presence of evil? Do humans, or human souls, live on after death? Is there a hell? The following lectures examine these eternal questions and present the most compelling arguments for and against God's existence, the seeming conflicts between religion and science, and the different truth-claims of the world's most popular religions.
