Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this to anyone without hesitation.
What about Stephen Fry’s performance did you like?
Stephen Fry is truly a treasure. His style and technique are simply perfect. He is clear and his tone is steady and consistent. His voice characterizations are realistic and do not, in any way, irritate me like so many other readers. Additionally, Mr. Fry provides commentary at the start of each section. His comments are humorous and intelligent. I can't think of anyone else of this calibre. It is so easy to see that this is truly a work of love for Mr. Fry.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It is impossible to listen to 71 hours in one sitting!
Any additional comments?
I have read the original stories many times. I also have many variations of Sherlock Homes, either radio productions or voiced reading. By far and above, this is absolutely the finest collection and reading made. For anyone who wants a "definitive" version which will be their "go to" version, this is it. Hands down. I will be listening to this collection for many years.

Historia
This outstanding historical recording made in 1941 for radio is widely regarded as one of the finest Hamlet performances ever, and one of John Gielgud's greatest moments. Though he went on to record it for commercial release, nothing matched this recording in the BBC studios, made before the days of editing.

Powerful, Wonderful Production
Revisado: 04-04-17
I had been looking for the Gielgud version of Hamlet for years. I am so happy to have been able to find it through Audible. This has to rank up there as one of the best of all time. It takes some concentration as a few of the voices are similar sounding. However, the script is completely intact (not abridged), and the performances are outstanding. Gielgud plays a sympathetic Hamlet and brings some unexpected nuances to his performance. Arguably, I prefer this version to the Olivier and Michael Redgrave performances, which were made within the same time period.

Historia
The elderly Emily Pride is perfectly pleased to have inherited an island, even if her starchy pragmatism is ever so faintly appalled by the Pixie Falls spring and its reported miraculous healing properties. But really, the locals' attempts to capitalize on the 'miracles' are entirely too tacky - Ye Olde Gift Shoppe, the neon signs…not on Miss Emily’s watch, thank you.

Reasonable Book but Irritating Performance
Revisado: 03-28-17
Where does Dead Water rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It ranks among my ongoing pleasure with the Inspector Alleyn Mysteries.
What other book might you compare Dead Water to and why?
I would compare it to Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham and Dorothy Sayers.
Would you listen to another book narrated by James Saxon?
Usually James Saxon is a competent narrator. However, like others, he mispronounces Alleyn's name throughout. I cannot believe that narrators have not been corrected on this by the publishing house. Saxon pronounces the name as "Allaine". Once again I wish someone would let the narrators know that Ngaio Marsh, herself, made it clear that the pronunciation is "Allen". This is just so irritating.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A very strange group of people live on this island.

Historia
The April Fool’s Day had been a roaring success for all, it seemed - except for poor Mr. Cartell, who had ended up in the ditch - forever. Then there was the case of Mr. Percival Pyke Period’s letter of condolence, sent before the body was found - not to mention the family squabbles. It was a puzzling crime for Superintendent Alleyn.

Poor Performance
Revisado: 03-24-17
Ngaio Marsh, herself, clearly articulated how to pronounce Alleyn's name. She said it sounded like "Allen". The narrator kept pronouncing his name as "Allyen", which was irritating. He also used poor stage voices for key characters. Inspector Fox, for example, sounded like a female fairy rather than the gruff character written.
