Historia
The superbly researched, spellbindingly told story of athlete, showman, philosopher, and boundary breaker Leroy “Satchel” Paige. Few reliable records or news reports survive about players in the Negro Leagues. Through dogged detective work, award-winning author and journalist Larry Tye has tracked down the truth about this majestic and enigmatic pitcher, interviewing more than 200 Negro Leaguers and Major Leaguers, talking to family and friends who had never told their stories before, and retracing Paige’s steps across the continent.

Great story, HORRIBLE narration
Revisado: 12-03-24
Great story, HORRIBLE narration. Would’ve enjoyed it much more had it been narrated better. Almost a robotic tone and lots of mispronounced names. It a shame because the story itself is very important and well done.

Historia
From growing up in Los Angeles with movie star neighbors, bearing witness to the music scene in the 1960s and seeing the rise of comedy in the early 70s, to studying mime in Paris under the tutelage of Marcel Marceau to becoming a founding member of the seminal comedy troupe The Groundlings, it's no wonder that Lorne Michaels offered Laraine Newman a spot in the original cast of Saturday Night Live. There, Laraine was part of the show that changed TV - and comedy - forever.

Excellent memoir that shows Laraine is so much more than her time on SNL. Recommended listen.

Historia
From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

The most fun audiobook I’ve heard in quite a while
Revisado: 05-27-23
Hanks gives incredible detail to his characters and plot, and delivers it all in a breezy friendly manner. I will revisit this title often. A must listen if you’re curious at how movies are made.

Fun quick listen
Revisado: 04-30-21
This collection of short stories is a fun listen that reminded me of the anthology series ‘Tales From The Crypt.’ The stories have a good dose of horror and usually include a comic or ironic twist.

Historia
Among the cast of this groundbreaking saga are the lovelorn residents of 28 Barbary Lane: the bewildered but aspiring Mary Ann Singleton; the libidinous Brian Hawkins; Mona Ramsey, still in a'60s trance; Michael "Mouse" Tolliver, forever in bright-eyed pursuit of Mr. Right; and their marijuana-growing landlady, the indefatigable Mrs. Madrigal.

Great as a refresher, not as an introduction
Revisado: 05-05-19
Listen to this collection only if you’ve already heard or read the unabridged versions. It’s great as a refresher if you haven’t read the books in a long while, but a lot of important moments are missing, namely ‘Michael’s Letter to Mama’ from ‘More Tales...’ A great collection, but this shouldn’t be your introduction to 28 Barbary Lane.

Performance is 5 Star; production is 2 Star
Revisado: 06-08-18
The audio is great, but some chapters cut abruptly at their conclusion and chop off the last words of dialogue. Could’ve been produced a bit better. Still, a very enjoyable (and now) poignant listen (which the author would invariably hate).

So In depth, engaging and engrossing.
Revisado: 03-01-18
I know a LOT about the history of The Beatles, but this book is chock full of surprises and stories about the childhood days of four lads from Liverpool who would later change the world. Covering from Ringo’s birth to December 31, 1962 (and including a section on their family histories that dates back to the 1800s), the book is so in depth that the listener feels like their riding along in the cramped van.
Narrator Clive Owen delivers distinct voices and accents for each ‘character’, not impressions, but distinct enough that you know when Paul is speaking as well as John, George, Pete, Stu, Klaus, and Ringo. It’s a very engaging performance that makes the book (44 hours in length)!zoom h
