Historia
In this, Shakespeare's last play, the dark themes of punishment and loss give way to those of forgiveness and new beginnings. The plot involves a shipwreck on a fantastic island where friends reunite, love blooms, and magic reigns.

Too hard to follow
Revisado: 08-25-14
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I felt like the narrator was adding too much "cuteness" to the way she inflected throughout the reading. Shakespeare is hard to follow, but the way it is read can help alleviate the unfamiliarity of the language. This narration did not help with that. I ended up switching to the written version and then I was able to follow the story line and appreciate it. I was lost in the narrated version.

Historia
There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Didn't care for it
Revisado: 07-16-14
What disappointed you about The Children of Hurin?
Loved LOTR and was expecting something awesome. Instead of a good story, I found an author who was enamored with his ability to create interesting names and linguistic details that added very little to the story. It was also overtold with every event being told as if it was the most amazing thing that had ever happened.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It was an interesting look into a different time in Middle Earth. The relationship between dragons, men, elves and orcs are all covered here and have some interest value.
