Historia
Optimus Yarnspinner inherits from his godfather an unpublished manuscript by an unknown writer and sets off to track down the mysterious author, who disappeared into Bookholm - the so-called City of Dreaming Books. Yarnspinner falls under the spell of this book-obsessed metropolis, where an avid reader and budding author can find any number of charming attractions: priceless signed first editions, salivating literary agents, and for-hire critics.

Self-Indulgent Parable
Revisado: 11-10-21
I am honestly perplexed as to those that claim this to the best book in the series. The story is entirely a writer's analogy of the publishing industry. The adventure pales in comparison with BlueBear and Rumo (Books 1 & 2) and only belong in the same series because of the character references.
The protagonist, Optimus Yarnspinner, complains about not being able to read a book because of the dullness of the material. He later learns that if he had gotten through the first 100 pages, he would have found a much better read. This is ironic because I f eel the same way about part 1. The first interesting thing doesn't occur until part 2, and then there are only brief sparks of true adventure with the remainder being long-winded and repetitive descriptions of characters and environments.
In summary, this is an OK book but if you are looking to be entertained in the same fashion as the rest of the series, lower your expectations.

Historia
Sherlock Holmes is dead--or so most of the world thinks. His fatal plunge over the Reichenbach Falls as he struggled with his archenemy, Moriarty, has been widely reported. But Holmes has escaped and is alive. In his immediate circle, only Holmes's brother, the lethargic genius Mycroft, knows of his survival. Even Dr. Watson thinks that the great detective is dead. Among his enemies, Sebastian Moran, Moriarty's chief henchman, knows of Holmes's probable escape and waits for their inevitable meeting.

Finally, Proof that Sherlock did die.
Revisado: 04-18-21
These stories may have a character with the name of Sherlock Holmes, but that is where the similarity ends. This detective does not make seemingly random observations that then only become genius upon explanation. This detective is driven by his emotion and events rather than coldly methodical and precisely anticipatory.
Having said that, these would have been good stories if the author would have allowed this to be his own creation and weighed down as he was to carry such a lofty title. The expectation left me wanting. But he is not the only author jumping on the Sherlock bandwagon and so many are unable to capture the original.

Historia
As always, Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there. One morning he ends up in a town near Pleasantville, Tennessee. But there’s nothing pleasant about the place. In broad daylight Reacher spots a hapless soul walking into an ambush. “It was four against one” . . . so Reacher intervenes, with his own trademark brand of conflict resolution. The man he saves is Rusty Rutherford, an unassuming IT manager, recently fired after a cyberattack locked up the town’s data, records, information . . . and secrets.

Unfaithful Narrator?
Revisado: 02-14-20
First, I want to say that I thoroughly enjoy all novels by Charles Todd and this was no exception. The location and era were brilliantly rendered and the characters are masterfully brought to life. The story is not the usual mystery however. It is a psychological thriller and we are guided, more or less, by the protagonists who plays the role of an unreliable narrator. This is not unusual for this type of story and the authors have done a fanstatic job weaving current and past events.
Where i feel a bit let down is during the epilogue, in which we learn that during the climatic scene, the unreliable narrator became a dishonest narrator. Of course you only realize this once you complete the book, but afterwards, there is a since of betrayal because until that point, the reader really feels they shared the adventure and then learn they were betrayed and the real motivations were hidden as a way to maintain suspense.
Okay, maybe I am being unfair. I have seen this in other stories, just not from Charles Todd. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the pacing was well executed. A+

Frustrating character choices
Revisado: 03-10-19
Regardless of the book’s synopsis, the protagonist does not behave cleverly or make smart choices at any point in the plot except to keep the story moving in unlikely directions.
The author’s attempt at a morality tale falls flat since good behavior is only modestly rewarded and bad behavior goes unpunished entirely.
With so much potential, this book fails to deliver.
