Beautiful, Soulful Story
Revisado: 06-14-23
This book took me by surprise. I did not go into it with any great expectation, but I was blown away by the clarity and insight the author provides into the protagonist. It was memorable and ,wonderful emotional journey.

I Couldn't Finish it
Revisado: 06-02-23
I actually felt bad for the narrator, because they had to say these words out loud. Also, I'm not talking about the silly erotica part-- I mean the whole damn thing.

Pretty g Good for the Genre
Revisado: 06-02-23
I somehow fell into a habit of listening to these fantasy romance novels...it's better than a lot of the garbage out there. The romance is predictable and boring. but it isn't smutty, (I can play this book while I'm working around the house without fear that my kids are going to walk in the room and hear some ridiculous, poorly written erotica). The universe is somewhat interesting. The character development is decent. Overall, it was a nice distraction.

Predictable, but Satisfying
Revisado: 06-02-23
The sequel isn't as compelling as the first book, but it ties together all the loose ends and satisfies the reader in the end.

In Kentucky, back in 1933, Carol's daddy lost his 13-year-old daughter in a game of cards. Award-winning author Simon Van Booy's spellbinding novel spans decades as he tells the story of Carol and the people in her life. Incidents intersect and lives unexpectedly change course in this masterfully interwoven story of chance and choice that leads home again to a night blessed with light.

Beautiful, Subtle Story
Revisado: 06-02-23
First, I really admire how the author created realistic characters who are ordinary people, not extraordinary. Some of them have gone through terrible trials, and others have faced relatively normal struggles. The story, fundamentally, is about the importance of being a good person. it's also about how a person's whole life can change and a span of just a few seconds. The structure of the story is complex, but masterful. I loved the vignette style The author uses to thread together many short stories related to this one. family history. The narrator was excellent.

But in Scotland, a new religion is rising, one that brings disruption, bloodshed, and riot. And even as her family faces the burgeoning forces of Christianity, the Anglo-Saxons, bent on colonization, are encroaching from the east. Historically fascinating, mediocre storyline
Revisado: 09-16-21
I want to start out by applauding the author for her historical research, which was very detailed and contributed greatly to the world building in her book. Well I appreciate the trip back into time and the details she used to create it, I found the story itself to be mediocre. The magic is very tame, the characters fairly one-dimensional and the romance perfunctory.
