An AMAZING second installment!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

OMG Yes!!! This book is full of action, fantasy, realness, pain, and love. It truly takes me on a journey into this world and it is written so poetically and narrated so beautifully that the book simply poured into my ears like honey.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gosh what a hard question! Karou with her blue hair, wry wit, and fierce strength? Akiva with his intense struggles, guilt-stricken consceince, and never ending love? No, I guess it would have to be Zuzanna. She's so child-like and adorable while at the same time being ferocious and funny. And her accent is played so marvelously by the narrator, that she simply springs to life in your ear.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is just as amazing as the other book I listened to her narrate, Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Intense connection, edge of my seat expectancy, gut renching longing, and a terrible terrible dissapointment when it was over. I laughed and even teared up a little a one point. Between the story, the writing, and the amazing narration, this book is unforgettably distinctive and far exceeds its genre counterparts.

BUY IT! READ IT!! You won't be sorry! (but read Daughter of Smoke and Bone first. Not because you can't enjoy this book without it, but because reading this one first would spoil the surprise conclusion of the original book. Also, you'll just want to have that experience. That book is phenomenal too!)

A bit of a let down

I was enthralled with the first book in this trilogy, Delirium. The intensity of living in the city with prying eyes always on the main character, Lena, and the forbidden love of the couple adds a layer to the story that's hard to top. Pandemonium was good, but just not AS good as the first. The story line changes so drastically because of the change in scenery and Alex getting shot at the end of the first book. Lena, too, changes in so many ways that she's hardly the same girl from Delirium. Although that may have been true to Lena's journey, it was a disapointment for me. I was hoping for the next chapter in Lena's story but instead, read a book about an entirely different girl. I was super dissapointed that she didn't spend more time mourning Alex or searching for his family in the wilds he introduced her to on their first trip out. Despite these criticisms, I did enjoy the book - the writing is still excellent and the narrator is superb. I'm excitedly looking forward to the final book, whenever that comes out. Also, (no spoilers) but I saw the ending coming and was dissapointed that Lena didn't.

Good but not as good

This one was good but the story felt so different from the first one. With the two main characters out of the town and away from their families and as many prying eyes, the intensity I felt in the first book was gone. Also, the narrator made the characters sound a bit dim. Maybe this is how the author imagined it in her head, but when I read the first one (via paper copy) I imagined the main characters as very intelligent and brave. This girl sounded weak and meek. The first one was soo good, I could barely put it down but this one was only mediocre. Hopefully the next one is just as good as the first!
