Cursed princes are nothing but ancient history to Fi - until she pricks her finger on a bone spindle while exploring a long-lost ruin. Now she’s stuck with the spirit of Briar Rose until she and Shane can break the century-old curse on his kingdom. Dark magic, witch hunters, and bad exes all stand in her way - not to mention a mysterious witch who might wind up stealing Shane’s heart, along with whatever else she’s after. A good story
Revisado: 10-02-23
I loved the elements of fables in the story, I honestly can't get enough of this genre of fantasy. I will definitely be reading the whole series. Pretty good story overall but not without flaws. I get writing complex flawed characters, but certain tropes are just frustrating. One of the characters, despite being described as smart, is constantly acting very irresponsible by hurting people's feelings and endangering loved ones in an attempt to not do exactly that. I would love to see some growth in them, but by the end of the book, they are still prioritizing their selfish reasons for being emotionally unavailable and it helps no one, not even themselves.

pretty good, but...
Revisado: 10-02-23
I genuinely loved the characters, the story and the performance were great. I cared about the world the author built and the relationships between lead characters and couldn't stop listening.
HOWEVER.
This is got to be the poster child for the most annoying cliche ever — the lack of communication. It's like characters are allergic to talking to each other. Despite caring for each other, they knowingly put everyone in danger because, apparently, besides witches and curses, they are also dealing with the worst case of not-talking-to-each-other-itis. I had to take a break from listening at points because most of their struggles could have been entirely avoided had they talked to one another.

what?
Revisado: 09-24-23
I have to DNF this, I can not. This book starts with a confusing exposition dump, the inner/outer dialogs arr filled with out of place childish linguo, and the plot doesn't flow, it stutters. Reads like hastily written fanfiction.
This is the first time I saw an annotation in the very title and was assured by it, but I just sat through four chapters of thi supposed "Lesbian Romance" of the main character thinking about how sexy her male companion was?
The narrator sounds like a twelve year old and the character reads like a twelve year old, and, I'm sorry, but I don't want to listen to a child talk about "ding songs"?! And what's with the pet names? "Pumpkin"? Please, no, the number of times I physically cringed over only the first few chapters is too much to bear.

Exactly what I wanted form a book
Revisado: 04-20-22
As a queer starved for representation who enjoys paranormal stories and vampires — this book was an absolute delight to listen to.
10/10 on character development, it was so easy to relate to not only the main characters, but to all characters. I keep trying to listen to small portions at a time to prolong the experience but it's really hard with the captivating story and easy to digest style.
The voice acting was on point, I really enjoyed being able to hear two perspectives with two different voices and every emotion was delivered to my brain exactly as it was intended to.

Historia
It's been 18 months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine, since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty's life out from under her. It started slow. First the teachers died, one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything. But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her.

Great story!
Revisado: 02-23-22
I absolutely love the new wave of YA fantasy that isn't heteronormative. I really wish I had a book like that when I was a teenager.
The body horror twist was just the right amount of gross, overall, a very fun read.

Revisado: 02-19-22
I just missed my scheduled sleeping time by about seven hours because I couldn't stop listening to this. I love LGBTQIA+ stories based on classic fairytales, cannot wait for the second book to release. Performance was amazing, every emotion was conveyed perfectly, what a rollercoaster.

First of all, the narrator nailed it in my opinion.
Second of all what a wonderful, beautiful story. So captivating, I was saving it to listen during my shift, but I just had to finish it in one day.

Revisado: 01-23-22
SPOILER AHEAD
Look, amazing writing, great performance and a captivating interesting story. But they did that one thing that 90% of horror stories do. The dog. The poor dog. And for what?! To add to the body count?
I'm so upset.
