There's not much of a mystery here, but I thought the author wrote convincingly in three different women's voices.

If you could sum up The Bloomsday Dead in three words, what would they be?

Irish Crime Story.

What other book might you compare The Bloomsday Dead to and why?

Other Adrian McKinty titles, especially the prequels.

What does Gerard Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's masterly when it comes to portraying different characters in the story with changes in his voice, accent and inflection. I believe I care for or dislike the characters the more for this. He's among the very best narrators I have ever heard.

Any additional comments?

Good for those who like crime stories and who aren't going to be turned off by a morally ambiguous protagonist. The narration is first class. And who doesn't love to listen to an Irish brogue?

Len Cariou does a great job bringing Harry Bosch to life. This is a fun listen for anyone who likes the Harry Bosch series.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I'm glad I listened as Foundation is foundation sci-fi. That said, I'm glad it was relatively short as I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped to.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoy good hard sci-fi sometimes and this was somewhat fulfilling in that regard.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was a usual Scott Brick performance. He's good and ubiquitous, but he is not among my favorite narrators.

Do you think Foundation needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Foundation has many follow-up books.

Any additional comments?

The lack of women in the story is quite jarring.
Lots and lots of politics.

Trite story with a mostly unlikeable protagonist. Skip it unless you like to be lectured to.

There are too many plot points revealed in the 11th hour to make this a truly effective thriller. And the characters sometimes display jarring emotional deficits that made me feel like Woods still had some work to do to fill in the blanks. Nevertheless, this was worth my credit, and I very much enjoyed the setting and a couple of the characters who were more fleshed out than the others. The narrator was also good.
