Historia
For years as an award-winning war reporter, Sebastian Junger traveled to many front lines and frequently put his life at risk. And yet the closest he ever came to death was the summer of 2020 while spending a quiet afternoon at the New England home he shared with his wife and two young children. Crippled by abdominal pain, Junger was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Once there, he began slipping away. As blackness encroached, he was visited by his dead father, inviting Junger to join him. “It’s okay,” his father said. “There’s nothing to be scared of. I’ll take care of you.”

The final chapter is one of the deepest, most elegantly written I have ever heard. An absolutely phenomenal book that will stay with you forever.

Historia
Helen Rebanks' beautifully written memoir takes place across a single day on her working farm in the Lake District of England. Weaving past and present, through a journey of self-discovery, the book takes us from the farmhouse table of her grandmother and into the home she now shares with her husband, James, their four kids, and an abundance of animals. With honesty and grace, Helen shares her life in days—sometimes a wonder and a joy, others a grind to be survived—weaving in stories that unfolds like a well-written pastoral novel.

A serendipitous find
Revisado: 01-18-24
I loved this book, and it was a serendipitous find for me. Helen, if you should read this, there’s a neat story about how I found your book. A friend sent me a photo of my own book, “Following the Echoes,” on the shelf of a bookshop in Canada. It was in between Alan Rickman’s diary and your book. I took notice of the title “The Farmer’s Wife,” and it immediately piqued my interest. And then I noticed the name Rebanks. I absolutely loved your husband’s book, and when I realized that, indeed, his wife had written one too, I immediately got it on Audible. And, already from the opening lines, I knew I would love it — as I did. I have no kids and no farm, but I live in a rural farming area in Norway, and your story really resonated with me. Thank you for writing a gorgeous book! Cheers from Claudia.

Historia
Raised as a fourth-generation farmer, when Will Harris inherited White Oak Pastures he was a full-time commodity cowboy who played hard and fast with every tool the system offered–chemicals, antibiotics, steroids, and more. His ancestors had built a highly profitable, conventionally run machine, but over time he found himself disgusted with the excess, cruelty, and smalltown devastation this system entailed. So he bet the farm on forging a different way of doing things. One that works with nature not against it, and bridges the quickly widening delta between consumers and their food.

Best book of 2023 and one of the most important of this era
Revisado: 12-13-23
I can’t even begin to express how much I loved this book. I’ve listened to several books on this topic, all great, but this is the greatest. The audiobook is an absolute delight, because not only do I love WHAT Will has to say, but HOW he says it. I believe this will go down as not only one of the most important, but also one of the defining books of our era. Thank you, Will, and everyone at White Oak Pastures. Hands-down best book of 2023.

This is the guide to getting old, if there ever was one. I’m grateful to have received it at age 45. Peter, I wes stunned when I got to the end and heard you say you were adamant about not being the narrator. Throughout the whole book, I kept on thinking that one of the things that made it so great was that your narration was fantastic. Thank you for sharing your invaluable knowledge with us, as well as your most personal struggles. And thank you to Joe Rogan for introducing you to the world. Best wishes from a thankful reader.

Historia
Gender identity ideology is about more than Twitter storms and using the right pronouns. In just 10 years, laws, company policies, school and university curricula, sport, medical protocols, and the media have been reshaped to privilege self-declared gender identity over biological sex. People are being shamed and silenced for attempting to understand the consequences of redefining "man" and "woman". While compassion for transgender lives is well-intentioned, it is stifling much-needed inquiry into the significance of our bodies.

If you read just one book on the trans issue…
Revisado: 10-05-22
Let it be this one. I’ve listened to several excellent books about this whole gender ideology and trans issue, and I wasn’t sure it could be done any better. But this is THE book — the best of them all. Comprehensive, dispassionate, compassionate, and rational — everything the activists are not. Extraordinarily well written and narrated — do NOT miss out on this one.

Historia
As a boy, James Rebanks's grandfather taught him to work the land the old way. Their family farm in England's Lake District hills was part of an ancient agricultural landscape: a patchwork of crops and meadows, of pastures grazed with livestock, and hedgerows teeming with wildlife. And yet, by the time James inherited the farm, it was barely recognizable. The men and women had vanished from the fields; the old stone barns had crumbled; the skies had emptied of birds and their wind-blown song.

Historia
Time is a mystery that does not cease to puzzle us. Philosophers, artists and poets have long explored its meaning while scientists have found that its structure is different from the simple intuition we have of it. From Boltzmann to quantum theory, from Einstein to loop quantum gravity, our understanding of time has been undergoing radical transformations. Time flows at a different speed in different places, the past and the future differ far less than we might think, and the very notion of the present evaporates in the vast universe.
