Did I give away my thought by the title of this post? Wonderful imagination, great depth, beautiful storytelling, high adventure. It has earned its place as perhaps the foremost fantasy story of modern times.

Loved it. But...
Revisado: 11-06-18
I enjoyed The Consuming Fire. Good story, well read by Mr. Wheaton. It built to a satisfying conclusion. The but is that Mr. Scalzi is a little bit too much of a smart ass for his own good. Sometimes I found I just wanted to smack a character or two or three upside the head. Still, in the end, a good, satisfying listen. I’m hooked for book 3.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Another wonderful portrait by Chernow
Revisado: 11-13-17
I knew only what I learned in school about his presidential years. Plus, I knew about his Civil War Years. Chernow goes into his usual depth and rounds out his book with sympathetic eye but is uncompromising in the honesty and depth of his portrait of Grant’s flaws as well as his strengths. His description of Reconstruction in the South after the war was a part of the story we so rarely hear; domestic terrorism at it’s worse. I always liked Grant as a General and now have a much deeper respect for him. Great book. Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry

Words on the Move opens our eyes to the surprising backstories to the words and expressions we use every day. Did you know that silly once meant "blessed"? Or that ought was the original past tense of owe? Or that the suffix -ly in adverbs is actually a remnant of the word like? And have you ever wondered why some people from New Orleans sound as if they come from Brooklyn?

Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

This is a Great Book!
Revisado: 03-01-16
What made the experience of listening to The Boys in the Boat the most enjoyable?
Everything. I was pulled into the story from the start. An engaging, absorbing, inspirational story. I felt better having listened to it. Edward Herrmann communicated Daniel James Brown's story masterfully. He will be sorely missed as an actor and as a reader.
What did you like best about this story?
Brown's description of and Hermann's reading of the races. I found myself on the edge of my seat listening to them. I found myself'being in the boat' with them, almost feeling each pull of the oar.
Which character – as performed by Edward Herrmann – was your favorite?
Joe Rantz. His life and struggles were both heartbreaking and, ultimately, inspiring.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Strive until you succeed.
Any additional comments?
I would recommend this book, in fact have recommend this this book, to everyone I know. One of my favorite books ever.

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. I'm a sentimental slob and I just thoroughly enjoyed this book. A nice fantastic element that added humor and insight and one that was never abandoned or explained away. I've read many of the St. Mary's books and enjoyed them but this is my favorite of her books.
