I’ve read and listened to soooo many books from this genre. One of the best, if not THE best.

While I had not read any of Jack Hunt's book prior to this I would say that hearing Kevin Peirce's voice made the book gel with several of my other favorites from this genre. Hunt's writing was solid, laced with enough prepper knowledge to let you know that he either is one or did some serious research. The story flowed well despite being told from numerous perspectives. I initially didn't follow the switches between characters but once I started paying attention to the names and what their backstories were, it made sense. From a purely practical view, the team approach to this problem worked well. Kevin Peirce's narration was solid, as always. I like that the story flows through his voice, without any distracting habits that some other narrators have. A get-home SHTF book...

This book was an enjoyable SHTF read. I appreciated the author taking on the problem of a disaster happening while members of the family are away from home, as well as the reluctance of certain people to accept the need to be prepared even when someone is willing to do it for them (something I certainly think about). The author clearly has an understanding of preparedness issues and makes some good suggestions through the narrative. I did find some portions of the story to be a bit too coincidental but I understand why he worked the storyline out that way. As far as narration goes Kevin Peirce is good as always in this genre. His intonation of this story makes it flow better than it otherwise might have. “Full Disclosure: I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.”

I've been training cops in defensive tactics and arrest control for the past decade. This book is outstanding, ranking with On Combat by Col. Grossman. If you are a sheepdog, or just really desire to understand violence and how to prevail in a life or death encounter this is a must read. I've ordered the print version as well. Thank you, Tim Larkin, for sharing your passion & knowledge in this great book!

This book was very painful to listen to. The story itself was underwhelming, but what made this book so bad was both the narration and the sentence structure. What made this abundantly clear to me that I listened to J. L. Bourne's Serpent Road right after this one. Wow! Night and day. Serpent Road is outstanding. Trust me on this; skip Objects of Wrath.

Solid TEOTWAWKI listen.

As a new edition to the TEOTWAWKI genre that I’ve come across is this little gem: What's Left of My World: A Story of a Family's Survival by C. A. Rudolph. It’s a well-written book that fits right in with several others of its kind. The author is clearly a prepper and a shooter or has done his homework enough to know the lingo. Parts of this book include profanity and other parts are rather violent, so I wouldn’t recommend you listen to this with your kiddos on a road trip. The language and violence aren’t over-done, just something to be aware of.

My only complaint isn’t really specific to this book but rather this genre as a whole. Many of these books seem to be punched from the same template with character names changed. The protagonist is cut from the same cloth; salt of the earth, good family, self-reliant, Christian – someone that many of us identify with. The antagonist, some variation of mutant zombie biker’s, tend to be uncomplicated cannon fodder. Perhaps I need to take a break from this category of audiobook…

As usual, Kevin Pierce does a great job of narration. Utilizing Kevin Pierce for this type of book is a bit of a two-edged sword for the author. Pierce adds some credibility due to the number of good End of the World books he has narrated but his familiar voice doesn’t help the book to stand out from the heard (I know, its ‘herd’, just an audiobook pun…). No offense intended to the talented Mr. Pierce; just an observation.

If you enjoy this type of story I would encourage you to use one of your Audible credits on it.

I almost didn’t buy this book because of the title. Don’t get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for the entire SF community but I didn’t think that it was going to be the real deal. I promise you, this one is. I’ve been a cop for about a dozen years and on our SWAT team for nine. I’ve been trained by some world class shooters (not saying that I’m one, just a fortunate and perpetual student) and I can tell you that Chris Sajnog is what he says he is. No question. I am simply amazed that a product this good is available at such a small price. I have paid for range time with some great shooters (in addition to what I’ve received for free) and this is, hands down, the best return on my investment in this department that I’ve ever made. Lots of gems in this one. The narration is great as well. You don't need to keep reading the other reviews. Just click "Buy Now".

This book is a solid addition to the prepper themed audiobooks. Locker Nine: A Novel of Societal Collapse by Franklin Horton was such a breath of fresh air. I have recently been disappointed by a string of books that are either a re-hashing of other books, too far-fetched to even enjoy (which is saying a lot for someone who reads zombie novels), or one book stretched into several as a way to suck every penny possible out of one book idea.

Horton’s Locker Nine has the right amount of character development, action and original ideas that make it a solid read for those of us that have given more than a passing thought to survival if the S ever actually HTF. Without spoiling anything here I will say that the storyline in itself is a solid one. The fact that he has obviously given some thought to an actual large-scale disaster and sprinkles this knowledge into the story making it even more enjoyable for readers like me.

As for the narration, I enjoy Kevin Pierce’s ability to tell the story. He really does a good job with this type of audiobook.

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com. Also (Spoiler Alert), a portion of my review will cover plot issues so stop reading here if you don’t want to read any spoilers.

Blackout: Strike Point is written in my favorite genre and I especially enjoy Kevin Pierce (who seems to be a favorite for writers of this type of fiction) so I was looking forward to reading (listening to) this book. Out of the gate I liked that the main characters weren’t your typical preppers that had everything in place and that they were away from home when the SHTF. That said, the wife seemed to have a wealth of knowledge she acquired via the internet (minor sarcasm intended).

The plot touched on the typical conspiracy theories including DHS / FEMA camps, and mentions “false flag attacks” and “chemtrails”. These tend to be off-putting to me but I understand that others may enjoy that type of writing so take it for what it’s worth. I had trouble following the tornado part of the plot line and assume that this will be revealed in a subsequent book. The main characters tend to make some pretty poor decisions as well that contradict their backstory (ie, You've researched enough to understand EMP’s and discuss false flags and chemtrails but voluntarily check yourself into a FEMA camp and surrender your weapons?). Overall I was disappointed in this book.
